A perfect love must have a perfect hatred for anything that would harm or destroy it. God perfectly hates sin and so we ought to as well.

"so He bringeth them to their desired haven." We might not have a clear view of the road ahead of us. Thankfully for us, it is the Lord who brings us home and he knows.

What will it be like to be made perfect? To be brought before our God without any flaw. Perfectly clothed in the righteousness of our Savior. This is a wonderful thought to meditate on.

How much do you know God? Hopefully, your answer was little, which is the beauty of sanctification. We know little of all he is, yet, he has revealed all that we need to know of him; and we continue to grow in the knowledge of God. We do not grow in acceptance of God as we know more of him, but it is a sweet gift. How do we learn more about God? What knowledge are we to be growing in? Let’s follow Spurgeon as he takes us along in to “seek to know much of the Son of God”

Jesus is a precious goodness for us. He is sweeter than honey and more aromatic than roses. Spurgeon has plenty of works in the Song of Solomon, and here we hear him talk about the sweetness of Jesus.

In this introductory episode of the new season of Engaging Spurgeon, we begin our deep dive into the Downgrade Controversy of the late 19th century. We hope you'll decide to stick with us for the duration of this important journey. We're setting the stage and introducing the players. Let's learn together, and glean from history, as we look at what was arguably the saddest, hardest, loneliest time of Spurgeon's life.

Ongoing covenantal renewal is part of our sanctification. The ordinances, confession, and thankfulness, are all part of growing and maturing in Christ.

You are saved in Christ! What does that mean? What truth do you cling to in that statement? If you are saved, does that mean you have a little hope? No. It means you have a perfect hope. It means that Christ has indeed saved you, perfectly saved you.

The cross is a strange symbol of hope. Sometimes compared to the electric chair, the cross was a symbol of torture and capital punishment. Now, with our Savior once nailed to it, the cross is the instrument of justice and pardon. Do not be downtrodden, look to the crucified and risen Savior, the One who conquered the cross.

What hope is there for the wayward sheep? We are all the wayward sheep. We have all gone astray. BUT! Praise be to the Lord, the God of our salvation. Our iniquity was placed on him.

When the Canaanite woman comes to Jesus, on behalf of her daughter, she is given what seems to be a harsh word, she understood the depths of the Messiah's kindness and compassion. And she was right! She was, as Spurgeon puts it, thinking great thoughts of Christ. So should we.

"As Christ loved the church" is a phrase that has changed the way I see my wife. We, as husbands, are called to a task that is more than can be shouldered by unbelieving men. We need Christ to help us bear this burden, and to bear it well. Wives, seek this in your husband. Pray for him and talk to him about this. Encourage him to be a sacrificial man. Whether you are a husband or a wife, rely on your Savior for the strength to do it.

The dove returned to the ark and Noah reached out to the dove and brought her in. Our Savior reaches out to catch us as we are wearied from our wandering. Too often we try to make ourselves better before we come back to him. If only we flew back weary more often, we might hurt less. Our Savior is eager to forgive and strengthen you. Only Return.

Pride is for those who deny the Lord! Surely that is not us. Oh Christian, we can be the most prideful. Let the Holy Spirit root out all pride in your life. Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but consider others more important than yourself. Trust in the works of Christ, not your stuff, status, intellect, but Christ!

What is the best tool to tackle the Scriptures? Bent knees and prayer to our God. How often do we go to the Spirit? Our work to get to the truth of the Word is done by going to the one who wrote them. Let your hardest work be seeking our God.
"Misery should always place itself right in the face of mercy." This truth is only found in Christ. Yes, people can be nice in this world but it cannot be relied on. Christ is always merciful to those miserable people who throw themselves in the mercy of God. I trust you know this, Christian. Go to Christ in times of misery.

The thought of death can be seen as very negative. In Christ, we have a very different view of death. What could separate us from Christ? Death will only bring us closer to him! It would do us good to think of what awaits us with Christ.

The grace which we have received is enough to save us. No other work is needed. It is also enough for us to continue in our salvation! How strange it is to be so focused and obsessed with the things of the world. Things that will drag us down and ensnare. How much greater is the one who saved us, and saved us fully? He knows our hearts and knows what is perfect and good. Focus on him, brothers and sisters. Let him grow in your mind and let all of the things of earth grow strangely dim
