119. Leading from Joy (Not Hustle): The Radical Shift Women Leaders Need Now

What if joy wasn’t the reward for success - but the strategy that leads to it?

In this episode of Embracing Enough, I pull back the curtain on one of the most misunderstood truths about leadership: joy isn’t a distraction from ambition; it’s the engine that sustains it.

Drawing from deeply personal reflections and early excerpts from her upcoming book, Even Here, Joy, Dina unpacks what it really looks like to lead from joy instead of hustle. She gets honest about the moments that broke her open; the burnout disguised as productivity, the perfectionism that felt like purpose, and the realization that she’d built a version of leadership that looked impressive on paper but left her feeling empty inside.

This episode is part confession, part redefinition, and part rallying cry for women who are ready to lead differently. I will explores how joy isn’t the “fluffy” opposite of strategy — it is strategy.

Joy brings clarity. It anchors authority. It creates trust. And most importantly, it reminds us that power doesn’t have to come from pressure.

If you’ve ever wondered what it looks like to embody leadership with ease, not tension - to stop performing confidence and start feeling it - this episode will speak to your soul.

Because joy isn’t what happens when everything finally falls into place. Joy is what helps you find your place; even here.

118. "But What Will People Think?" The Question Holding Women Back

This episode is for every woman who’s ever silenced herself mid-sentence, dimmed her light before walking into a room, or second-guessed a bold move because of one nagging thought: What will people think?

In this raw and reflective episode, I unpack my biggest lessons from a whirlwind September - training executives with BTS on authentic presence, leading a global leadership workshop for women from six continents with Counterpart International, and delivering her very first keynote, Sorry Not Sorry: Embracing the Power of Authenticity Over Perfection, to a room of 250 women leaders at the LeadHership Conference.

Across every setting - boardrooms, training halls, and global stages - the same fear surfaced: the fear of being judged, misunderstood, or rejected for showing up fully.

I dive deep into the universal conditioning that keeps women seeking approval, exploring how the question “What will people think?” is rarely about perception - it’s about safety, belonging, and centuries of social conditioning that teach women to play small to stay accepted.

You’ll hear the truth about what confidence really means, why even executives struggle with visibility, and how women across the world are confronting the same cultural ghosts in different dialects. Most importantly, I share the mindset pivot that can shift you from performing for approval to leading from authenticity.

💥 If you’ve ever held back your brilliance because of what others might say - this episode is your permission slip to stop.

Key Takeaways:

  • Why confidence isn’t a trophy; it’s a practice.

  • How the question “What will people think?” shows up differently across cultures but stems from the same patriarchal root.

  • The link between safety, belonging, and approval.

  • A coaching reflection to help you rewrite your relationship with external validation.

117. Cracks in the Armor: How Disruption Builds Stronger Leaders

In this powerful episode of Embracing Enough, I sit down with my friend and fellow coach, Meredith Waters - a high-performance coach, strategic consultant, and founder of Thriving at Waters Edge. With nearly two decades of leading international development projects across more than 25 countries, Meredith brings a unique blend of global perspective, hard-won wisdom, and heart-centered leadership.

Together, we dive deep into the concept of the fallow period - those seasons of life and career when ambition gets disrupted, whether by external shocks or internal misalignment.

Meredith vulnerably shares her own journey through disruption, from missing her ROTC run time by 21 seconds to navigating a blood disorder, unexpected career pivots, and even being fired. Each disruption cracked the “armor of achievement” she had built - and taught her to embrace those cracks as places of growth, resilience, and ultimately becoming shatterproof.

We also unpack the recent upheaval in the international development consulting industry and what it means to redefine productivity, reclaim joy, and give yourself permission to pause. Meredith introduces us to her “sandbox” approach - experimenting, playing, and replenishing in ways that help you realign your compass and rediscover what truly lights you up.

This conversation is an invitation to rethink what ambition looks like when life doesn’t go as planned, and to honor the sacredness of the pause. Because sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is stop, breathe, and allow ourselves to be reshaped.

This episode is an invitation to rethink what ambition looks like when life doesn’t go as planned, and to honor the sacredness of the pause. 115. The Leadership Tax of Always Saying Yes

Every time you say yes when you mean no, you’re paying a leadership tax - one that drains your influence, erodes your credibility, and chips away at your self-worth.

In this solo episode of Embracing Enough, I pull back the curtain on one of the most common traps leaders fall into: overcommitting out of a desire to be liked, prove themselves, or avoid disappointing others.

I share my own hard-earned lessons, including the career-shaping moment that forced her to deconstruct what leadership really means.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

  • Why people-pleasing and perfectionism sabotage your leadership potential

  • The hidden costs of saying yes too often (it’s more than just burnout)

  • How self-worth shapes every leadership decision you make

  • A simple 3-question filter to turn reflexive yeses into intentional yeses

  • How to say no with clarity and without guilt

If you’re ready to stop leading from exhaustion and start leading from power, this episode will give you the clarity - and the permission - to do just that.

🎧 Press play and take the first step toward ending the leadership tax for good.

114: Inclusive Leadership Isn’t a Checklist—It’s a Mindset with guest Kendra Okposo

What if true inclusive leadership isn’t about ticking boxes—but about how you choose to show up, even when no one’s watching?

In this electric and deeply honest episode of Embracing Enough, I sit down with Kendra Okposo, Director of Change, Transformation & DEI at BTS, social justice advocate, certified emotional intelligence coach, and co-founder of a dog rescue for shelter animals deemed “too much.” The two dive into the layers of what it really takes to lead from the inside out.

Kendra shares her story of starting her career in big law, navigating systems never built for her, and experiencing a pivotal moment in law school that cracked her wide open - teaching her the true meaning of empathy.

From that point on, she committed to not just fighting injustice, but learning to lead with compassion and emotional fluency. We talk about rage, boundaries, self-compassion, the myths of “belonging” in the workplace, and the radical act of saying no.

This episode is a masterclass in unapologetic leadership and dismantling performative inclusion in favor of real, heart-led transformation. Kendra’s journey will inspire you to unlearn the need for external validation and remember the truth: you don’t need permission to take up space.

113. From Doubt to Direction: The Leadership Lessons that Changed Everything

What if the most powerful thing a woman leader could do... was trust herself?

In this episode of Embracing Enough, Dina Scippa sits down with Serena Williams (no, not that one - but a force of nature in her own right) for a raw, no-BS conversation about what it really takes to grow as a leader.

Serena opens up about her journey through The Leadership Lab, how she faced down career upheaval, and the unexpected lessons that came from leaning into vulnerability, not away from it.

This episode isn’t about perfection. It’s about resilience, emotional truth, and why mentorship and community aren’t just “nice-to-haves” - they’re lifelines.

If you’ve ever questioned your worth, felt alone in your leadership, or wondered when it would finally get easier… this one’s for you.

What you'll walk away with:

  • Why resilience isn’t a buzzword; it’s a survival skill

  • The truth about why emotional support matters more than strategy alone

  • How vulnerability isn’t a weakness, but the root of authentic leadership

  • The role of empathy, self-trust, and community in rewriting your leadership story

This is what happens when women stop hiding, start trusting themselves, and lead from the inside out.

112. The Approval Trap and Why We're Done Performing for Permission

Let’s get one thing straight: you were not put on this earth to be liked by everyone in your office.

In this powerful solo episode, I'm diving headfirst into the tangled web of perfectionism, people-pleasing, and the trap of approval-seeking - especially how it’s playing out in the workplace for women.

I gets real about my own journey of chasing gold stars and external validation, and how it left her burnt out, underpaid, and questioning my worth. Sound familiar?

You’ll hear:

  • Why so many brilliant women are still waiting for permission to lead

  • The subtle (and not-so-subtle) ways approval-seeking shows up at work

  • How these patterns hold us back from our power, pay, and peace

  • A fierce call to stop performing and start reclaiming your voice

This episode is the permission slip you didn’t know you needed to stop editing yourself for other people’s comfort—and start leading like you already know.

Because you do.

111. It's Not You, It's the Norms in Your Household: How to Let Go of What We've Been Taught to Carry with Kate Mangino

In this episode of Embracing Enough, we’re digging into a truth too many women know but rarely name: what’s happening at home doesn’t stay at home.

The mental load, the invisible labor, the pressure to be everything for everyone—it doesn’t just live in the kitchen or the carpool lane. It bleeds into how we lead, how we love, and how we measure our own worth.

This week, Dina is joined by author Kate Mangino, whose book Equal Partners: Improving Gender Equality at Home offers both a wake-up call and a blueprint for change. Together, they explore how perfectionism and people-pleasing are deeply rooted in the way we’re taught to care—and overcare—for others. And how it can hold us back from leading authentically.

You’ll hear about:

  • How “being the default” at home leads to burnout
  • Why men often dismiss women’s household labor as “extra”
  • What true partnership looks like without martyrdom
  • Why true partnership is good for men, too!
  • And how to start unlearning the systems that keep us stuck

If you've ever wondered why “doing it all” feels so exhausting—it’s because it is. This conversation will help you name it, question it, and start to shift it.

Kate also shares about a very exciting new workshop being held later in 2025 called MOVE Your Marriage: a 1.5 Day“WeTreat” for dual career couples. It’s a first of its kind workshop to tackle some of the most pressing issues couples face when juggling career, kids, and money. 110. Through the Storm: Transparency, Integrity, and Putting People First

What if the bravest thing you could do as a leader wasn’t having the answers—but telling the truth when everything’s falling apart?

In a world obsessed with optics, this episode is a gut-check and a rally cry for every leader who’s done performing and is ready to lead with radical honesty, unwavering integrity, and a heart for people over perfection.

In this raw and powerful episode, host Dina Scippa pulls back the curtain on what it really means to lead when the pressure is mounting and the playbook gets tossed out the window. Leadership in times of crisis? It’s not about being polished or perfect. It’s about being real, honest, and relentlessly people-first.

Dina dives into three core pillars of transformational leadership—transparency, integrity, and putting people first—sharing candid stories from her own experience and coaching sessions with women leaders navigating storms in their workplaces.

From confronting team burnout and donor chaos to resisting the urge to “keep it all together,” this episode offers both soul and strategy for the kind of leadership that doesn’t crumble in the chaos—it rises.

You will walk away with:

  • Practical tools to lead transparently without adding to the overwhelm

  • A reframing of integrity as consistency and accountability, not just moral high ground

  • A people-first lens that centers empathy without sacrificing outcomes

If you’ve ever wondered how to lead when you don’t have all the answers—or questioned whether your values can survive the storm—this episode is your blueprint.

103. The Love Story We Were Sold: Unpacking Our Teenage Obsession with Being Chosen

Why were we so obsessed with love as teenagers? And why, decades later, are we still carrying that baggage?

In this episode of Embracing Enough, host Dina Scippa takes a raw and personal dive into how our early ideas of love, validation, and self-worth were shaped long before adulthood.

From Love Is Blind binges to real-life high school crushes (yes, she’s spilling the tea on her first kiss), Dina unpacks the toxic narrative that being “chosen” equals being good enough.

Get ready to challenge the stories you’ve been telling yourself about love—and start reclaiming your own worth.

102. Boyhood Reflections: Navigating Teen Years, First Loves, and Fatherhood with Gary

In this episode of Embracing Enough, I’m joined by my friend Gary, who’s here to share his journey of navigating adolescence as a teenage boy.

In this episode, Gary and I dive deep into the highs and lows of those teenage years—insecurities, friendship groups, first loves, and all the messy emotions that come with growing up. We talk about how those experiences shaped him, not just as a man, but as a father today.

Whether you’re a parent, reminiscing about your own teenage years, or just curious about the male perspective on growing up, this conversation is one you won’t want to miss.

101. Inside Out 2: Reclaiming Your Inner Teenager, Pixar-Style

On this episode of Embracing Enough, I’m mixing things up and decided to do a review of the summer movie I'm obsessing over. It's a movie hat hits all the feels—literally. We’re diving into Pixar’s highly anticipated Inside Out 2!

Join me as we explore Riley’s emotional rollercoaster through adolescence, where new emotions like Anxiety, Embarrassment, and Envy take center stage.

This sequel brilliantly captures the messy, beautiful reality of teenage life, reminding us why it’s so important to reconnect with our younger selves.

I’ll share my thoughts on how the film portrays the complexities of growing up, the pressure of perfectionism, and the impact of Anxiety on Riley’s journey.

We’ll also talk about how this movie reflects our own struggles with identity and self-worth during those turbulent teenage years.

Whether you’re a fan of the original Inside Out or just curious about the emotional challenges of adolescence, this episode is your guide to understanding the powerful messages behind Inside Out 2.

So grab your popcorn, hit play, and let’s get into it!

Embracing Enough
100. What I'm really AFRAID of

It's the 100th episode!

In this episode, we focus on something I know I’ve been struggling with and I know so many women who I speak to struggle with – and it’s being a people pleaser.

And here’s the thing: people pleasing started early on as a child, can get worse in adolescence when we're fighting for that need to belong, and can way out of control if we let it linger too long in adulthood.

While for so many of us, it's what we rely on best to survive; the more time goes on, the greater this pattern takes shape in your life and takes you further and further away from developing a relationship with yourself.

For many of us, people-pleasing is such an ingrained pattern that we don’t even realize we’re doing it. But in order to break up with people pleasing, you have to first get honest with yourself as to how you've been choosing this.

Listen in on the 4 reflections I have about what people pleasing actually creates and how to move away from it - one step at a time.

Embracing Enough
Embracing Enough is a podcast redefining what leadership really looks like - especially for women who are done performing perfection. Each episode invites bold, honest conversations with women who are leading, healing, and unlearning the stories that told them they weren’t enough. Together, we explore what it takes to show up with confidence, courage, and authenticity - in the workplace, in our relationships, and within ourselves. This isn’t about climbing ladders or checking boxes. It’s about leading from the truth of who we are - messy, powerful, and enough exactly as we are.
