Will is BACK from Croatia, and we knew there was only one star to pitch fake movies to this week. The late great Pinterest interior designer, racket ball player, playwright, mafia wife, and first wife...Diane Keaton. We remember the film icon and discuss how her emergence in 70s Hollywood classics informed her absurdly good 90s run, capped by a favorite of ours...Something's Gotta Give. Then we PITCH fake flick Keaton should've made hot off SGG, in the year 2003 (46:58).MEMES AND CLIPS:https://www.instagram.com/theelevatorpitchpod/https://www.tiktok.com/@elevatorpitchpod
It's time for Elevator Pitch to REWATCH. That's right. Matt is joined by Caleb Saad (Hug Your Bros) to rewatch Damien Chazelle's 2016 film La La Land starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling. Then, get this...they're gonna talk about it. I know. Incredibly original podcasting. Tune in to find out if we can pull it off.

What's next for the smashing machine?
Pitching is back on Elevator Pitch and and oh my god...it's Paul Thomas Anderson week. We become the first podcast in history to chat about his new movie ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER starring Leo, Benicio, Teyana Taylor, and introducing Chase Infiniti. Then we pitch (50:52) to the master of Masters, the hitmaker of dressmakers, the Orson Wells of porn, the mayor of Magnolia Boulevard, the guy who...directed There Will Be Blood. It's one of the greats. We're nervous, but we've got some pitches for him. So tune in.
It's been too long. Sorta forgot how to write these blurbs (and optimize them for seo purposes). But WE'RE BACK. Will catches us up on his month of filming another movie and Matt takes us through his world travels. Then... we don't pitch. Instead, it's a catch up of every single movie we watched and didn't get to chat about...including WEAPONS, THE NAKED GUN, and LAWRENCE LAMONTS'S ONE OF THEM DAYS. Two friends reuniting through the power of content creation. It doesn't get better than this.
Here's the deal...Elevator Pitch is gonna go on a little break. Why? Well we both just gotta buy a one way train ticket, performativity read Joan Didion, and stare out the damn window till we figure out who we really are. That's right. It's summer vacation. Time for us to TRAVEL. Will's heading off to do a movie and Matt's literally doing that first thing so we decided to chat travel movies...Well Will and Tanner chat travel movies before Matt comes off the top rope with a pitch (44:08). He can't be there live unfortunately. Treadstone is on his tails. And even worse...SCOTTY DOESN'T KNOW.
BAZINGA
We're taking this elevator to New Mexico for a pitch session and convo all about a true cinematic sicko...Ari Aster. But we can't do it alone. We're joined by stand up comedian and known Aster skeptic Noah Marger to chat about the auteur of the abominable and his new immunocompromised film EDDINGTON. What worked? What didn't? Did Tanner play one of the Antifa militants? Did Tanner play all of them? These answers and more. Only on Ari Aster's Elevator Pitch.

Oh my lord...this elevator found its way to Metropolis. That's right. It's time to talk Superman. Was it good? Was it fine? And most importantly, what should its star DAVID CORENSWET do next? Because we think he is a star! So is Hoult! And Brosnahan! And Bradley---Actually I'll let you get there yourself. In the meantime, we've cranked up the thermostat and turned the mics on. Let's SWET.

The mics are on, the raptors are out of the cage and even worse...Tanner is back into the elevator. We're also joined by Matt's roommate, Sigma Chi Brother 4 Life, and known Reddit paleontologist Noah Paradise to chat about all things Jurassic Park. We start with the newest instillation, Jurassic World: Rebirth before finding our way back to the original three (19:18). Goldblum. Raptors. Michael Chrichton. Nick Van Owen. Nothing's off the table. We lick the damn bowl clean. Then we toss out some other lab disasters. What makes for a good science gone wrong movie? Let's find out. We're gonna pitch our own (49:19).
We finally saw F1 so it's time to box for a quick two hour pod and change the pitch oil. But first, shall we chat about the blockbuster hit and its star? Why not. After all it's none other than thief/hotel manager, fight club entrepreneur, old man baby, Oakland A's GM, stunt double, forgotten silent film-era star, fake Italian film star, spy gamer, and personal trainer...Brad Pitt. So up top is our F1 chat. What works and what...almost works. Then we go full Pitt. Lot's of Oceans Twelve. Some Moneyball. Maybe a little Allied if you're lucky (38:57). Then we have our first pitch conversation (1:23:27). We'll explain all that. It's different. It's fun. IT'S PITT.
It’s time again for Tanner to call the shots. He had once simple request. Pitch fake movies to the pride of Long Island, Alec Baldwin. We thought it’d be best to take this one to 1997, smack in the middle of his go at leading man status. The Hunt for Red October. The Getaway. Malice. The MF Edge. Who was this guy anyway??? (1:02:43) But first, a few pieces of movie news. We just gotta talk Denis Villenueve returning to Earth for James Bond (unless he goes Moonraker) and Sorkin’s Social Network Part II. It’s a loaded episode. Billy and Stevie Baldwin would be proud of it.
Wow...We've been waiting for this one. It's finally time to talk Celine Song's Materialists, her matchmaking follow-up to 2023's Past Lives, starring Pedro Pascal, Chris Evans, and this week's guest...Dakota Johnson. She's running fashionably late to the elevator, so we've got plenty of time up top to chat through what's surely one of the more interesting movies you'll see this year. No spoilers but let's just say Celine Song's got us in a damn TIZZY. Then we chat through some other Dakota favorites of ours and how her off-kilter performance style has evolved over the years (36:14). Then we PITCH fake movies to Dakota in whatever year we want (58:58).
For the release of the Phoenician Scheme (and because there's no new episode) [and cause the Stanley Cup is happenin'] we're re-releasing last year's Wes Anderson pitch-off with Empty Netters hosts Dan and Chris Powers!!

It's SUMMER TIME BABY
You're gonna need to trust us...for one last pod. It's finally Cruise week in the elevator. Nay...it's FUTURE CRUISE WEEK in the elevator. We're joined by comedian Ryan Goldsher to chat Mission Impossible: The Final Dead Reckoning Part 2 and pitch movies to the only professional pilot, spy, deep sea diver, free solo climber, pool shark --- you know what? This bit doesn't work for Cruise. Simply too many hits. That's why we'd like to figure out what's next for the eternal movie star. So join us for a meeting of the minds and a pitch session (01:07:22) for the ages.

Today we're joined by the co-host of the Almost Friday Pod Liam Cullagh for a chat about friends, chums, buds, and the movie FRIENDSHIP. It's a brilliant discussion on the new Tim Robinson/Paul Rudd broflick that finds its way to all of our favorite buddy comedies. Then we pitch our OWN buddy comedies to the powers that may be (Tanner at 55:48). You're gonna wanna hear this. AND watch it on YOUTUBE.
We're back pitching athlete movies for the first time since OJ. And this time we're talking hoops. That's right. It's basketball movie week in the elevator. We chat about the ones WITH actual NBA players and the ones WITH Omar Epps playing NBA players. The pickup movies. The high school movies. The college movies. And obviously the Lil' Bow Wow movie. Bron was in Trainwreck...Bet you didn't remember that shit...IT AIN'T BAD TOO. But I'm getting ahead of myself. After our chat, we PITCH fake movies starring real NBA players (36:03). This is our best work yet. Better than OJ.
Well...not that good.
Thunderbolts*: Live Die Repeat has been out for a week, so we're finally digging our teeth into some Marvel. Producer Tanner and Matt duel mics and provide their fastest 3 minutes in podcasting on whether or not the movie ripped or slipped. THEN we chat about actress turned spy, Lady Macbeth, WWE wrestler, cult tourist of Sweden, mortal enemy of Olivia Wilde, mistress of J. Robert Oppenheimer, and now the great Russian hope of the Marvel Cinematic Universe...Florence Pugh! (30:02) Finally we pitch Flo some future films that can take her into the generational conversation she deserves to be in. (54:34) We believe she's the truth...well sometimes.
We finally saw WARFARE and we're talking all about the new(ish) film from Alex Garland and Ray Mendoza. We discuss its technical accomplishments and try to pry the "why" from just "what" happened. Then we jump into its up and coming cast and the movie's place in a long lineage of up-and-coming ensemble flicks. Finally we PITCH to whoever we think truly has the juice. Which actor out of this cast shall rule Hollywood in next decade? Could that actor be Noah Centineo??? Listen and find out (49:20).
