Sam Rinzel, 2022 first round pick to the Chicago Blackhawks, Hobey Baker nominee and current Defenseman for the Minnesota Gophers joins Drop the Mitts to talk about his season thus far. The Gophers currently sit fourth in the country in the College Hockey rankings and have a huge test this against the Michigan Wolverines in Ann Arbor. Sam is considered one of the top Defenseman in College Hockey netting 9 goals which is a career high and 16 Assists in 30 games so far.

Sam talks about what it has been like growing up and playing with Gophers Captain Jimmy Snuggerud and what he has meant to their team. He also talks about the insane amount of talent that the Gophers have this season and their chances of bringing home a National Championship.

He also talks about the draft process and what the moment was like when he found out he was going to be going to the Chicago Blackhawks an Original 6 franchise and attending Development Camp with the Blackhawks.

Former Air Force Academy Falcons Captain, current Defenseman for the Ontario Reign, Luke Rowe joins Drop the Mitts! Chris and Luke talk about Luke signing his first professional hockey contract very recently signing a 1 year deal with the Ontario Reign. He talks about scoring his first professional goal and playing with fellow D-man Brandt Clarke. 
Luke talks about his four incredible years at the United States Air Force Academy, the ups and downs and his experience at a well known military academy. He talks about his day to day life both as a hockey player and cadet at the Academy and his initial thoughts as he got to the Academy as a 20 year old for basic training. Luke studied Military Strategic Studies and went into great depth on his experience in that major and his biggest takeaways.

Episode 46: Logan Stankoven

Dallas Stars Forward Logan Stankoven joins the Drop the Mitts to talk about his first season both in the AHL and his call-up to the NHL. Logan talks about the teams deep playoff run and what it was like playing in a playoff environment especially in his home barn at American Airlines Center. Logan goes into detail about his emotion scoring not only his first NHL goal on his 21st birthday against the Isanders but scoring his first playoff goal against the Colorado Avalanche. He also talks about playing with guys like Jamie Benn, Joe Pavelski, and linemate Wyatt Johnston. With the 2024 NHL Draft coming up at the end of the month Logan gives advice to the guys that may not hear their names in the first round as a guy who defied being a crucial part of a playoff team not getting picked in the first round.

2023 Boston Bruins 3rd round pick, Quinnipiac commit, and most recently Forward for the Sioux Falls Stampede Chris Pelosi joins the pod! The two Chris' sit down to talk about this past season, playing with fellow Boston Bruins draft pick Beckett Hendrickson, and the increase in production. Chris also talks about what went into his decision to commit to Quinnipiac University and the decision to play for Head Coach Rand Pecknold. Chris talks about Draft Day and how his younger brother Rocco reminded him that the Draft was on. 

(26:00) The second half of the episode Chris is joined by the incredibly talented Hannah Carpenter to talk some puck! Hannah talks about what it was like being on the ice shooting photo's for the Walter Cup winning PWHL Minnesota team and what this entire PWHL season has meant. Chris and Hannah go back and forth discussing their mock drafts for the upcoming PWHL Draft and where prospects like Sarah Fillier, Hannah Bilka and Danielle Serdachny could end up! The two also dive into their thoughts on what the new Utah Hockey team will go with for a team name. He talks about a couple of former Michigan Defenseman that he sees himself in like Quinn Hughes and Seamus Casey.

Episode 43: Steven Kampfer

2011 Stanley Cup Champion with the Boston Bruins, Olympian and most recently Captain of the Tucson Roadrunners Steven Kampfer joins Drop the Mitts! Steven talks about his crazy run in Professional Hockey: playing College Hockey for the University of Michigan, the 2011 Stanley Cup season and insane celebration, his time in the KHL, and his role as a mentor and leader with the Tucson Roadrunners. In taking on that newer role Steven goes into detail what it was like and what it meant to him being able to mentor some of the Coyotes top prospects guys like Dylan Guenther and Josh Doan. 

Steven goes into great depth and detail about his time in Boston for the 2011 Stanley Cup run as well as his second stint with the team for their run in 2019. What it was like getting the opportunity to play with players like Zdeno Chara, Patrice Bergeron, Shawn Thornton and Brad Marchand. 

Steven talks about what it was like getting the call from John Vanbiesbrouck asking if he wanted to represent his country in the Olympics. From Meeting up with David Krejci for some cases of beer partying with Matty Ice.

Episode 42: Matthew Schaefer

Recent Gold Medalist in the U18 Men's Worlds, number one overall selection in the Ontario Hockey League Draft, and one of the top rated prospects in the 2025 NHL Draft class Matthew Schaefer joins Drop the Mitts! Matt talks about his experience traveling to Finland and going to war with his buddies for Hockey Canada and playing with guys like Gavin McKenna and Porter Martone and what it meant winning the Gold for his country.

On the home front Matt talks about what his adjustment has been like jumping from U16 to the OHL playing for the Erie Otters and having a phenomenal season. He notes what an incredible mentor guys like Ben Gaudreau and Malcolm Spence have been to him and how they have helped him with the adjustment.

With his him being eligible for the 2025 NHL Draft Matthew talks about some of the strenghts of his game as well as things he is looking to work on this offseason. 

Later in the pod Chris talks about last night's Colorado Avs vs Dallas Stars game, Connor Ingram taking home the Masterson Trophy, as well as the bounce back play of Charlie McAvoy and the incredible run Jeremy Swayman is having between the pipes for the Boston Bruins.

Episode 41: Jack Devine

University of Denver Forward, Hobey Baker Nominee and National Champion Jack Devine joins the podcast! Jack talks about the unbelievable season he had at Denver being nominated for the Hobey Baker Award and taking down Boston College in the National Championship game. He talks so highly of teammates Zeev Buium, Tristan Broz, Matt Davis and Sean Behrens and what it was like winning the Natty with his best friends. Jack also talks about getting drafted by the Florida Panthers and going to the Panthers Development Camp last year what he got from that week. 

The Boston Bruins lose to the Florida Panthers 6-1 and Chris breaks down the game. Sway deserved better play in front of him, defensive zone turnovers, and another too many men penalty. The game ended in a blood bath with everyone in the arena receiving 10 minute misconducts. Chris applauds David Pastrnak for Dropping the Mitts with Florida Panthers Forward Matthew Tkachuk and what that means from a leadership standpoint

The San Jose Sharks have won the Macklin Celebrini sweepstakes and we now know the draft order for the 2024 NHL Draft in Las Vegas in June. Chris breaks down who we could see in the top 10 and stay tuned for the Drop the Mitts 32 pick mock draft.

From the reigning National Championship winning Quinnipiac Bobcats, the set up man on the iconic overtime goal, Sam Lipkin joins Drop the Mitts for Episode 34. Sam talks about the goal and what he saw on the play along with Jacob Quillan's iconic celly hitting the Selanne with the stick toss in the stands. Sam talks about playing for legendary Head Coach Rand Pecknold and what he has meant to Quinnipiac as well as the chemistry he has with teammates Collin Graf and Jacob Quillan. With some of the most passionate fans in College Hockey Sam describes what its like playing in front of the Quinnipiac faithful. He also talks about his time with the Chicago Steel and the honor he had being able to wear the "C" as well as playing with guys like Owen Power, Adam Fantilli and Matt Coronato to name just a few.
