Watch out! There's a killer on the loose! But fear not, Margaret and Emily, your fearless detectives are on the case, ready to explore 2 stories about serial killers made 100 years apart. Zodiac (2007), based on true events, is Fincher's classic thriller, lightly inspired by M (1931), which basically invented the procedural drama. Lock your doors, wrap up and take this spooky journey with us.
The bell is ringing and class has begun as Emily and Margaret learn about high school movies, the musical, Grease (1978) and the comedy, Bottoms (2023). With Grease being credited with the creation of a lot of common high school film tropes, compared to the modern take on the tropes in Bottoms. We discuss the important questions, who is PJ and who is Josie? And is Danny Zuko gay for dating a woman? Join us or you’ll get detention.
Howdy partner! Not too familiar with westerns? Well, neither are we. Mosey on down with us as we educate ourselves with the classic piece of cinema, Butch Cassidey and The Sundance Kid, by way of Tarantino’s modern cowboy flick, Django Unchained. Very familiar with westerns? Well, forgive us as we navigate this beloved genre by watching the movie that is often sighted as being the start of the modern western (Butch Cassidy), and a Tarantino fan favourite.
Should Margaret and Emily be sent to space? Absolutely not, but they will talk about it at length. Join us in this mega episode to discuss the classic sci-fi epics Interstellar (2014) and 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) and have an existential crisis in the process. Just remember, space may seem big and scary but if you have a super cool kid who you bond with then you too can avoid the human zoo!
Ladies, Gentlemen and everyone in between welcome to an episode with state of the art technology- a moving picture! (we have a filmed episode up on youtube). Singin' in the Rain and Babylon both track the transition in the film industry from the silent films to the talkies. For Don Lockwood, lead of The classic musical, its a breeze except for his squawking co-star Lena whom he has attached at the hip. From Damien Chazzelle's perspective, it went down a little differently. For Manny Torres, it throws his and his fellow artists lives upside down, as they are forced to change with the times in an industry that does not value them.
Join us- Margaret and Rhiannon- They Talk!
This week jurors 7 and 8 (aka Rhiannon and Margaret) call this podcast to order to discuss the modern movie ‘Juror #2’ and the classic cinema that is ‘12 Angry Men’. We examine the similarities and differences of these two legal dramas, deliberate what we would do if we were on these juries and ultimately debate what exactly do we owe each other? We charge you guilty of enjoying this episode.

For our first episode, we take a dive into complex narrative structure and unreliable narrators with David Fincher's The Social Network (2010) and Akira Kurosawa's Rashamon (1950). The Social Network is a personal favourite of ours and when we heard that it had a lot in common with a classic Kurosawa film that neither of us were familiar with, we were intrigued. But will they make a good double feature? Let's find out.
