Winsome and Ephraim agree to Aramintha’s getaway plan but in the heat of the moment, they get separated in the Central Room. Gray collapses and has an epic seizure that distracts everyone ⸺ except Blue. Aramintha, Ephraim and Winsome make a break for freedom, but the best laid plans…..
Jonah agrees to Aramintha’s escape plan. She and Winsome make music to pass the time and bring comfort but then Aramintha discovers that Jonah won’t be joining her in the escape after all. Then, in a freakish turn of events, Gray finally reveals to Aramintha what the aliens are really after.
Ephraim is gone for days and comes back refusing to talk. Still, Aramintha tries to get him and Winsome on board with her escape plan. They’re not convinced. The alien Gray is sicker and Aramintha notices there’s something about her, Winsome and Ephraim that makes them stick out in the sea of humanity now.
Aramintha and Jonah figure out that some of the aliens are sick ⸺ but what does that mean for humans? Aramintha confronts Winsome about getting cozy with the alien Blue, but then she learns the (really) hard way just how connected they are.
Aramintha and Winsome wake up deep into brutal pregnancies. Within days, their third trimesters are upon them. Ephraim tries to comfort them, but Winsome reaches her breaking point.
Aramintha and Winsome are intrigued when the aliens add another human, Ephraim, to their household. He’s still water, running deep; a man scarred by the trauma of the arrival. The women’s intrigue with him is quickly overshadowed when they find out why he’s there.
Captivity quickens the bonding between Aramintha and Winsome. As different as they are, they’re each other’s only friend. But these days, friends can’t protect you and soon, Aramintha wakes up to find the alien named Blue stealing something from her.
Blue adds a mysterious woman named Winsome to the room where Aramintha is being kept. Haunted Winsome is consumed with finding her husband, wife and twin daughters . . . but little does Aramintha know, Winsome’s obsession may have pushed her over the edge.
Aramintha connects with cocky, easygoing Jonah; he's cool people with a fascinating history and he becomes a lifeline to the world she used to know. Apparently, every day is a school day: Aramintha also learns that the aliens are not invincible when she notices something about Gray.
The Central Room is the one place where humans can be together in a way that remotely resembles life before the aliens. It’s also where they get a taste of fresh air. Surrounded by so many others trying to cope with captivity, Aramintha makes a discovery that changes everything.
Gray takes Aramintha deeper into the compound to the Central Room where humans are free to wander in captivity, like animals in a zoo. And like zookeepers, their alien captors understand human species well enough to make major changes. Cut off from everyone and everything she knows, Aramintha is desperate to connect with other humans….but people are different now.
