Beyond Camera Lenses
Our first D-VIEWS season closes with this very special episode featuring a lively discussion between our very own Hagit Krakow Cherny and Mickey Noam-Alon, two colleagues, friends, and the heart and soul of this podcast, about the ins and outs of communication in the international development and humanitarian sectors. They highlight the role of pictures and words in shaping public awareness and opinion and how those can do harm—misrepresenting those we work with and hurting their dignity—or become instruments of agency through which to make their voices heard. Listen to their personal reflections on more than a decade of experience in the sector, memories of pictures that changed history, and the observation that the spread of mobile technology suddenly narrows the gap between communicators and those they seek to represent and, thereby, catalyzes change beyond and behind camera lenses. Also in this episode: the meaning of real consent between photographer and photographed and what our gut feeling has to tell us when facing challenging ethical decisions.

In this D-VIEWS episode, climate and impact finance professional and founder of The Global Impact Tech Alliance, Leehe Skuler, discusses with our podcast host, Hagit Krakov Cherni, what caused the increased involvement of the private sector in development efforts and how we can work together to create a win-win situation for both. Understand where catchphrases meet reality and how we can become critically thinking collaboration partners, avoiding both uncritical enthusiasm and uninformed resistance. Also in this episode: do we even speak the same language? And why our professional jargon can become an obstacle to mutually beneficial partnerships between sectors

International Aid in War
One year ago, on 24 February 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine and set forth an avalanche that has since affected the lives of many communities around the globe: displacement, hosting communities, rising energy prices, and food scarcity have made the headlines. We recorded this month’s D-VIEWS episode in April 2022, shortly after podcast host Hagit Krakov returned from a humanitarian deployment on the border between Moldova and Ukraine, witnessing the dynamics of international aid in war and conflict. Humanitarian law consultant Itay Epshtain, international humanitarian Naama Gorodischer, and frontline humanitarian worker Veronica Kovalchuk bring together the levels of legal concerns, organisational response, and individual experience. Also in this episode: how to integrate emergency relief and community development, humanitarian aid and development.

Shifting Local Power
In this D-VIEWS episode, senior innovation manager, Ian McClelland, and head of a consortium of local organizations in South Sudan, James Labadia, discuss how to localize a sector that speaks of #LocalOwnership and yet, again and again, places funding and decision-making power into the hands of internationals. Understand what stands in the way of the #PowerShift our sector has discussed for decades and listen to their struggles, critique, and ideas for a future where local and national organizations are not only implementors but equal partners.  Also in this episode: recruitment biases, self-interest, and consortiums and innovation as tools for system change.

Also in this episode: what should keep us up at night, costing approaches, Gender Mainstreaming, and Glocal lecturer Amelia Weinreb on defining gender.
