This episode explores the thought-provoking ideas of Michel Foucault, a French philosopher and social theorist. Foucault is known for his critical analyses of power, knowledge, and institutions.
He argued that power is not simply repressive but also productive, shaping our identities and social norms. Foucault's work examines how power operates through discourse, surveillance, and discipline, influencing our understanding of madness, sexuality, and criminality.
We'll discuss Foucault's key concepts like biopower and the panopticon, and how his ideas continue to be relevant in understanding contemporary society.
This podcast episode delves into the groundbreaking work of Sylvia Wynter, a Jamaican novelist, playwright, and philosopher.
Wynter's scholarship challenges traditional Western thought by examining how race and colonialism have shaped our understanding of what it means to be human. She argues that dominant power structures have created a limited view of humanity, excluding the experiences and knowledge of marginalized groups. Through her concept of "genres of being human," Wynter explores alternative ways of understanding ourselves and the world around us.
Join us as we discuss Wynter's key ideas and their implications for decolonizing knowledge, rethinking identity, and imagining a more just future.

does your face LIGHT up when you talk about what you do? kacy’s does when she’s talking about astrology -- and she helped me get excited again about the things i do!
on 12/10/20 i had the chance to talk with kacy danae (ig @kacydanae) about community and more.
here are some of our talking points:

- example of digital community that has done something differently
-- The Porch [note: lol, i was not expecting her to say this and
it wasn't on my mind]
- the importance of safety and privacy of online spaces and
them being sacred, "taking responsibility for online presence
and creating boundaries for protecting people and honoring
the sacredness.."
- digital privacy, archetypes
- coming off 3 year social media hiatus, advice for those thinking
about creating online spaces/community (intention, genuinely
holding space for transformation)
- my experiments (sound, frequency, sound activation, singing bowls)
