Classic Tales for the Modern Ear
Eleonora

The context of falling in love with a cousin seems weird in today's landscape, but in the 1800's and earlier it was more common than we think it was.  With that aside, Poe wrote about the haunting side of love, and what it can do to a person who fully embraces it, and how it can be both a blessing and a curse.

Classic Tales for the Modern Ear
The Blinded Giant

Giants are a staple of folklore, fairytales, and even pop culture. Often depicted as dumb brutes they don't really see much more "character" than that, so from "More English Faerie Tales" by Joseph Jacobs we present "The Blinded Giant"

Classic Tales for the Modern Ear
How the Camel Got His Hump

Fairy Tales often have a moral attached to them that was important, or at least prevalent, during the authors time.  This story is one of those, but presented in conjunction with animal creation mythology as well. So sit back and enjoy this tale from Rudyard Kipling

Classic Tales for the Modern Ear
Hans-my-Hedgehog

Put to the written page in 1815 by the Brothers Grimm, put through seven editions of their books, and even chronicled by Nora and Andrew Lang for their Colored Fairy Book series comes the tale of Hans-my-Hedgehog.  You may also recognize a version of the character from more recent times as a character from "The Witcher".

Classic Tales for the Modern Ear
Henny Penny or Chicken Little

I don't recall ever hearing the original version of this story in all my life until recently, while researching for this series. The moral here is, be careful about starting a panic because you may just lead others into a different threat altogether.

From Alvin Schwartz to Stephen King and Marvel comics to video games such as Until Dawn the Wendigo/Windigo has been a staple of horror tales for generations and used more often than people might even know about.  This week we tell a lesser known version of such tales, where the human overcomes the Windigo instead of succumbing to it.

Classic Tales for the Modern Ear
The Little Match Girl

Written by H.C. Anderson this tale is indeed a very sad one. I originally recorded, and since lost, this story last year but felt it too sad and depressing to share. I have since changed my stance on it and released it as we all need to remember that it can take a small act of kindness to save a person.  It is also often the most vulnerable among us that suffer the punishments of unjust life.
