A Cinema Podcast from the 1st Nations land of the Kumeyaay, Sunny San Diego California by Mexican-Americans. We decided to look at contemporary cinema that we have either experienced already or somehow missed with our program 5 Year Review. We look at films that came out 5 years prior to our present and ask if it stood against the test of time. We remove the hype, any controversy, and the relevancy to look at these films objectively and see if our thoughts or feelings of the films change or are enhanced by them. Our production started in January of 2020, before Covid-19.

Turning Red (2022)

*Spoiler Review*

Pixar Animation 2022

We did a contemporary review of an interesting film portraying a young Chinese-Canadian girl’s journey to herself in Pixar’s new Turning Red. This film was selected to push for women’s representation and bring animation into the conversation with Cinema as Cinema. We talk about how it's only on streaming, this is Pixar’s first women only lead production, and Pixar as a production company. We broke our own program because we don’t care and quite frankly we can do whatever we want for our own amusement or for your entertainment. Hope you like this episode because we had a fun discussion when Lucia let us speak and enjoy Pixar’s 2022 Turning Red! Happy Pride month!

5 Years Review - Hardcore Henry

A 5 year review by Cinema Stud that takes the retrospective look at contemporary cinema 5 years prior to the theatrical release of the film and ask if it stands the test of time

in this INSANE, VIOLENT, HARDCORE movie... we have a short, somber discussion about Hardcore Henry. half the crew were unable to make it so the other half talks about the films unique first person perspective, it's male targeted audience, and whether the movie has a dedicated HARDCORE following that'll help it stand the test of time

Oscar Predictions!

This episode slapped harder than Will Smith!

We needed a break from the reviews so we decided to shit on the Oscars and their white hetero voting patterns/guilt.

I don't remember who was here or care to share the socials on this ep. jk give the crew a follow.

5 Year Review - Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

*Spoiler Review*

We watched a big one and some of us didn't even finish it or even watch it. Ben Affleck is Batman, Henry Cavill is there and Holly Hunter is wasted. Jesse Eisenberg? What is this? We reviewed this movie a year late because Covid fucked up our scheduling so its another year late. Fuck you, here's a 6 year review of Batman V Superman and we get faded on this review. Bottoms Up!!

5 Year Review - Bleak Street

*Spoiler Review*

Editors Note; We had a technical issue that resulted in less than desirable audio for about the first 20 mins. We apologize for any inconvenience this may bring.

A 5 Year Review by Cinema Studs that takes the retrospective look at contemporary Cinema 5 years prior to the theatrical release of the film and ask if it Stands the Test of Time. We did it! We were finally able to watch as a group Bleak Street!! A Black and White film from Mexico that follows the lives of people living in Poverty stricken Mexico City Streets. 2 Little Luchadores, 2 lowly prostitutes and their families struggling to make ends meet and find any hope for their lives are they navigate their professions with grim reality by filmmaker Arturo Repstein. This film was only available for streaming within 5 years of it’s theatrical release. So if you are like most of the crew and had no idea it existed we can relate! Except for Alonso, who recommended it and persistently championed this film. We watched this black and white film that felt like it was plucked out of the 70’s but was released to America in January of 2016. The crew wrastled with their takes on this film and got put to work in this 5-Year Review of Bleak Street!

So join us on this Thriller Horror and see what we come into the conclusion of The Witch 5-Year Review.

5 years review - Dark Night

*Spoiler Review*

Editor Note: this is our first time recording on discord and multiple notifications are heard throughout the recording

A 5 Year Review by Cinema Studs that takes the retrospective look at contemporary Cinema 5 years prior to the theatrical release of the film and ask if it Stands the Test of Time. What was supposed to be our first episode of season two of CinemaStuds turned into our most heated discussion of a movie that hardly anybody has heard of (blame Alonso) which is why we started with a lighter film like Deadpool. Dark Night is a poorly executed film that tries to be insightful but poorly handles the sensitive subject matter of mass shooting. Listen how each member struggled to watch the film, losing their patience and sanity, questioning the director's motives, and most importantly discussing which commercial was the most entertaining to watch on tubi that helped keep our sanity. If you get something out of this episode is that you enjoy listening to us suffer reviewing this movie and whether your willing to watch or avoid Dark Night

R.I.P. to our Queen Betty White
A 5 Year Review by Cinema Studs that takes the retrospective look at contemporary Cinema 5 years prior to the theatrical release of the film and ask if it Stands the Test of Time. The New Year is here! And we started it off terribly with, well you’ll see on the next episode so we decided to start it off better with Deadpool! The movie that made us tolerate Ryan Reynolds for another 5 years, anticipate the X-Men to the big Screen again with more accuracy, and enjoy Gina Carano’s presence before we found out who she really is! Anywhooo We satisfied someone’s addiction with this episode/movie and bought another few years patience for watching Superhero for the crew. So listen in and find out who is the big Superhero fan! :D (Its Alonso he loves Superhero movies :P)
Somebody please help! Ryan Reynolds got is holding me hostage and is forcing me to type in the fourth wall!! Please! Sda;fiofshb[gqmo Hello everyone I hope this is your favorite movie of 2016 I know it was for me, I’m not Ryan Reynolds at all. More Deadpool!

A 5 Year Review by Cinema Studs that takes the retrospective look at contemporary Cinema 5 years prior to the theatrical release of the film and ask if it Stands the Test of Time. This is a big episode, partly the reason why we took this approach to tackle big films and ask our dreaded question. Disney bought Star Wars and spent a lot of money, they expected to make their return fairly quickly, We watched this box office juggernaut that brought Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac and Adam Driver share the screen with Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, and Mark Hamill (Briefly).
