After spending the last week attending several military events, Heather and Nate are bringing you this episode to share what it’s like to attend and be a part of these ceremonies, balls, dinners, and more.
Heather reflects that she didn’t always feel comfortable at these events as a girlfriend or fiancé - it can feel like there are a lot of unspoken rules and traditions that take time to learn and become familiar with. Now after 10 years of attending military events, Heather says she still gets nervous, but has decided to go into them with a positive mindset knowing others may be feeling the same!
The couple touch on important things like appropriate outfits for coordinating events and ice breaker questions to ask other military couples. These events can be a great opportunity to meet new people going through the same things as you, so just say yes and go to the event! Most importantly, talk to your partner about how you’re feeling before and at these events; it’s important to be on the same team.

Welcome back to Chirpin’ with Chip! Today, Heather and Nate will be sharing their walk with God and their spiritual journeys. Having both grown up in the Catholic church, God was always a part of their lives, but was never much of a personal relationship. During their engagement, the couple went to premarital counseling that sparked a journey of new growth individually, and also as a couple. Heather shares the story of a friend that invited her to a different church when she was in Hawaii and Nate on his short tour in Korea. Little did she know that that worship service would be the ignition to continue to create a closer relationship with God for both Heather and Nate. Heather and Nate got a lot of questions from their Instagram audience about the PCS (Permanent Change of Station) moving process. Today the couple will be revisiting their several PCS moves, if they had movers or chose to “DITY” (do it yourself) and the pros and cons to both methods. Heather and Nate share that there has been some changes to the PCS policies since their last move and why that could impact you if you’ve got a PCS move coming up. Heather also reflects on the importance of a positive mindset when it comes to these inevitably complicated moves that go hand-in-hand with military life. There will always be something, whether big or small, that goes wrong. But with a positive mindset, it will make your move go much more smoothly. Heather expresses how she looks forward to PCS moves now as they allow her and Nate an exciting opportunity to make new memories, be close to friends, and close to other exciting favorite spots like Disney.
