Paula Walter Kind Creations, Santa Cruz, Whole Plant Cannabis,1st Vodcast, Covid-19 Episode 38
paula Walter wanted to help people, prop 215 was allowing her to give medicine directly to patients. Her background comes from her parents watching people dying from AIDS and distributing cannabis in the underground market. She decided to get involved while working as a trimmer and started making cookies for people, In 2008 she started Kind Creations making caps and giving them to anyone in need at no cost. She then realized even though she was helping people she needed financial help, So she started taking donations to continue helping patients in need. Her company was at the forefront being one of the first CBD capsules to be available to the market. The process the company takes to produce product uses low heat infusion, no chemicals no CO2 just the natural traditional herbalist way, whole plant style. She makes sure the whole plant goes into her product, terpenes, cannabinoids and everything that comes with developing product from the whole plant. They test 3 times before it ever goes to market. Paula has done all of this on her own dime, she made it through pre 215, then post 64. Most brands could not make those transitions, between packaging, testing and distribution it created many hurdles for these companies to overcome. Paula has persevered. She credits her ability to succeed in the ever daunting of gauntlet that cannabis brands have to run into… KARMA. She has focused on helping people and that has stayed consistent to this day, now she is ready to embark down the path of raising funds to take her brands product offering to the next level and I could not think of a better time for an amazing person who has an even more amazing company. Matthew Wagner Cannabis Industry Insider, Wanderlust, NORML, Crypto, Covid-19, Episode 37
It all started out with a LinkedIn search “Cannabis Industry Insider” and boom there he was Matthew Wagner. I read into his bio a bit and talk about someone with a story. “I have applied at 200+ cannabis jobs on LinkedIn, and even more on other platforms; not a single interview, and not a single call back. I found my way. and I was meant to be here.” Our conversation lasted over 2 hours and we put about an hour on tape, there will be a part 2. Matthew is sitting in front of a store smoking a joint and starts to share his path to where he is now. It all started in Missouri hard to think someone could be an aggressive advocate for cannabis. Well, leave it up to Matthew to buy an armored truck for his bar, paint it with a HUGE NORML logo on the side of it while subsequently driving it around town. After numerous raids on his business in Missouri, he was over it, Matthew is a renegade. He feels that the marijuana leaf is a “fuck the man” symbol. He loves weed so much he just wanted to be in the cannabis industry. The next step wasn’t weed though. He found himself in Beijing China working on crypto mining hardware (sketchy as hell in Asia), depressed and feeling the need to get back to America and more importantly get back to cannabis. After spinning through Thailand and managing numerous bars in the paradise of Phuket, Thailand legalized medical marijuana… it was time to go home. He landed in Houston and decided to load his car and drove straight to Northern California and sequester himself in the Emerald Triangle. He went though a couple harvests, the farm got robbed and he was not willing to get shot but loved the plant so much. “I’m going to LA babayyyy!” After he got to LA he realized he was in his element, he began to work on marketing for brands, throwing events and focusing on his amorous relationship with cannabis. I am going to go on record that this is episode 1 with Mr. Wagner we managed to get you a cliff notes version of his path to cannabis. Next episode we will dive into pieces of his story to expound on his adventures in weed. Matt’s closing message is to help those in need and in general. Be a good human. Barbie Sommars Faerie Jane, High Dining, Mary Jane University, Patient, Covid-19 Episode 36
I really loved this interview with Barbie Sommars, her passion and concern comes through. Starting as a patient and an activist she naturally moved to becoming an educator. She has dealt with health issues that have fueled her desire to utilize cannabis as medicine. She is the President of Faerie Jane, a cannabis consultancy specializing in helping clients successfully navigate this vast emerging industry. With over twenty years in asset management and six years building and facilitating networks in the cannabis industry, she is passionate about connecting investors to deals, creators to markets and people to information. Barbie is dedicated to infused consumption and that leads us to discuss her endeavor “High Dining”. Her desire to utilize cannabis in the dining experience she layers it with education and knowledge. These dinners are a wonderland of education, science and magic. She has also crossed over to psychedelics as medicine as well not necessarily infusing psychedelics but the continued education. What a pleasure to have this conversation with Barbie Sommars, enlightening and educational all wrapped into one. Champelli The Bay Area, Prison, Artist, 20 SEEDS, Gentlemens Game, Mac Dre, Covid-19 Episode 34
Champelli…the…king…is….back Before there was Cookies, Dr. Greenthumb or any other weed mogul there was Joseph Rutherford aka Champelli. In the early 90’s, it was the real first strain to blow up the bay area, hip hop artists Snoop Dogg, Memphis Bleek, Beanie Sigel, B-Real, Yukmouth and the legend Mac Dre all rapped about the Champelli. “I need some Mary Jane, some Champelli mane a smelly thang Joe Pelli is my relli mane” – Mac Dre. Joe is not just a weed guy, his passion is music. He is a musician, a record label and producer. He has worked with Britney Spears, Kanye West, Snoop Dogg, Black Eyed Peas and more. After years of building his career and literally everything about to blow up he got tipped off his name was circulating around a RICO case. So he bounced, moved to Europe pushing through Amsterdam and Spain while still smoking weed even doing a growing stint in Switzerland. But after a decade, the Bay Area was calling his name. He came back thinking that he was in the clear only to get wrapped up, he did a 6 month prison stint (as if he needed the street cred) with 3 years probation on the back end…for cannabis. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GyDrpOeeQ_I One would think he would stay away from the cannabis industry, even as it became more mainstream with big money coming in, brands white labeling cannabis like t-shirts he felt compelled to do what was right. Bring it back. Joe decided he was going to work hard at getting the brand back to its revered status, growing in small batches perfecting his strains. He made a commitment to look for the right partner for the Champagne of cannabis. Joe is intent on working with prison reform advocates to get the low level drug offender criminals out of prison, especially with the Covid-19 pandemic happening. It is time for justice and to do what is right. Pray for Champelli! Make sure to keep an eye on Champelli follow on Instagram @champelli415 and visit his website where you can get the first rounds of Champelli Clothing . Mary Carreon Associate Editor Merry Jane, Psychedelics, State of Cannabis, Covid-19 Episode 33
You wouldn’t know it with how humble Mary Carreon is, but she is a profound voice in the space. As the associate editor of Merry Jane, she has the opportunity to tell the best story regardless of the topic to tell the story through the lens that is tangible. She just had her full first year on 4/1 with Merry Jane, and in cannabis years that is like 7. Her angle to write is around telling the whole story and one in particular is when she interviewed Virginia Hayes and Dr. Mandrake about how to grow psilocybin mushrooms including a cook book for gummy worms and other interesting baking goods. If you do not know anything about cannabis or psychedelics you will leave with more knowledge. Mary and I span discussions on the state of cannabis vs. all other drugs and how the legalization of mushrooms seem to miss all the hurdles the cannabis industry has been facing. We also touch on the war on drugs, the waste of resources and needle exchanges. Cannabis Power Hour with Ophelia Chong and Carl Saling, Covid-19 Episode 32
When you get three people who know almost everyone in the industry to jump on a podcast this is what happens. The Cannabis Power Hour will be a weekly event with the ever present Ophelia Chong, the master of Hash Bones Carl Saling III and your host the digital media guy Danny Keith. Listen as we traverse how cannabis has become an essential business in the state…or has it. Regulation is strangling the industry, taxation is driving customers to the illicit market all while allowing counties and cities to determine IF there should be an industry within their area. It seems like we have some great ideas around how the restructure of how the cannabis industry can possibly be reshaped as the rest of the United States looks to California to set the standard. Ophelia poignantly states we need to come out of Covid-19 lockdown with the intent to do no harm, Danny gives the analogy of coming out of the Haunted House and looking at the next person in line saying…just you wait. The trio also talks about the CBD everything craze, apparently we may be developing CBD toilet paper “To calm yo ass down!”. Scott Goldie Goldenseed, Regulation A, Green Day, Santa Cruz, Covid-19 Episode 31
Living in Santa Cruz California it is always nice to see a local company doing big things. In this interview with Co-Founder and CEO of Goldenseed Scott Goldie and their securities lawyer Kendall Almerico we discuss the first of it’s kind in cannabis utilizing Regulation A (is an exemption from registration for public offerings. Regulation A has two offering tiers: Tier 1, for offerings of up to $20 million in a 12-month period; and Tier 2, for offerings of up to $50 million in a 12-month period. For offerings of up to $20 million, companies can elect to proceed under the requirements for either Tier 1 or Tier 2.). Goldenseed has attracted some heavy hitting people with Mike Dirnt of Green Day not only as an investor but brand ambassador for the up and coming company. “I got involved with Goldenseed on an invitation to look at the farm with a friend of mine, and after having made a few trips to check out their beautiful locations, I asked my wife if she was OK with us investing,” Dirnt begins. “She was absolutely all for it because cannabis was a tremendous help during her chemotherapy treatments when she was battling breast cancer. To this day, it helps with her body aches and pains and the residual effects of a lot of drugs that went into her system.” Tapping into the growing and cultivation knowledge of JR Richardson across cannabis and hemp he has over 30 years in the space with an attention to detail. Currently 9 strains are being produced under the Goldenseed brand. With a 1st place High Times Cup (Sunset Sherbert/Indica Hybrid) under their belt right out of the gate, it is apparent their attention to the finer points is paramount. JR was one of the first to reintroduce the terpenes from the plant back into a preroll providing a better taste and aroma. Not to mention offering a Surf City OG strain. The best thing about how this company is setup for financial success and the process of on-boarding investors. The ability to utilize Regulation A allows the company to create a vehicle by only approving accredited investors to participate for a minimum of $100. The offering spans 5 different ranges all the way up to naming your own strain! Make sure to check out Goldenseed website and if you are curious about investing visit OwnGoldenseed also make sure to follow them on Instagram @goldenseed

Colin Disheroon Cannabis deemed Essential, 280E Taxation, Covid-19, Black Swan Episode 24
Colin Disheroon decided in 2010 while working in park and land management that cannabis was something he was not just interested in but felt he could build an experience around. As with everything Colin does (self quoted takes a special kind of crazy) he jumped in with both feet building out his Santa Cruz Naturals dispensaries in Santa Cruz and Monterey County. The Cannabis industry is tough. From taxation, regulation, packaging, testing, product availability, metrc and pricing. Then you add the Covid-19 virus which is crippling the world is having the reverse effect at the moment. Cannabis is on fire as state after state putting shelter in place requirements and deeming cannabis as an essential service. Colin had the foresight to develop SDash delivery for his customers and right now with everything going on is helping his customers get their medicine. Black Swan, an event that has high unexpected impact. Colin feels Covid-19 falls into this category as we are faced with a situation we have never dealt with in our lifetime. Opportunities will expand, businesses will cease to exist and when we come out of this period expect things to be different as we know it. The hope is California regulation/taxation can change to better help the growth of the cannabis industry instead of strangling it. Passion is a big driver for Colin, which is why he took another shot at being on the edge and launched Power of Flower the first cannabis music festival on Santa Cruz County. The inaugural event went off without a hitch which was held at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds coupling cannabis consumption and music together. Carl Saling III Acquisitions, Tommy Chong, MSO Publicly Traded Cannabis, Covid-19 Episode 23
I spoke to Carl just over 5 months ago, his company was on the path to go public while establishing the Hash Bone product line. In that short amount of time Carl not only went public on the Canadian Stock Exchange (CSE) under the ticker HOLL and is also trading on the Over The Counter (OTC) market ticker HSTRF. But Hollister Cannabis Co. is not stopping there, the roll of signings continued with Tommy Chong and the relaunch of the celebrities brand under Tommy Chong Cannabis. The initial launch of this product will be a 1000mg Tommy Chongs Elixir a 1 to 1 CBD to THC tincture. Tactical Relief a veteran owned business that is committed to returning 5% of profits to veteran charities. The husband and wife team run Hollister Cannabis Co. straight of of San Benito County, but do not let this sleepy town define the business. As of this podcast the company is in the final stages in acquisition of Venom Extracts, the largest extraction business in Arizona with facilities in Nevada soon to be operating in California as well. The acquisition provides instantaneous revenue (as of press Venom Extracts did $13MM in 2019) and the ability to be a Multi State Operator (MSO) for all of their brands. Of course, in the height of everything moving quickly, Covid-19 hits and Carl and his wife pivot. They kick into gear to take care of their employees while they create policy and continue to operate safely while also making sure the staff feels appreciated. One of the the things I am the most impressed with is how much Carl and his wife Amasa care for their staff, not always the case in business let alone cannabis. Make sure to visit Hollister Cannabis Co. website follow the company on IG @hollistercannabisco @hashbones and go buy some stock on the CSE HOLL or OTC HSTRF.

Adelia Carrillo EventHi CMO, Covid-19, Virtual Events Episode 22
Adelia and I are good friends, in the cannabis industry you have to band together with like minded people. She has seen the ups and downs of the industry and is powering in her role of CMO for EventHi. So when I gave her a hit on social media looking to talk she definitely looking to share. In the event landscape, there are not many options for cannabis brands/events to promote conferences, mixers, brand launches etc. Her fiancé Ali Fakhri saw this need and launched the first cannabis focused ticketing platform and promotional company EventHi. Before the Covid-19 virus business was booming, event after event was coming on and for the young startup life was looking amazing. Everything changed once the global pandemic hit. In episode 22, Adelia and I cover the challenges for the cannabis space with respect to event planning and execution with EventHi providing a valuable resource to these businesses... but she goes one step further. Virtual events are the wave of the future as we converse about the combination of physical and virtual events. Cost savings, better engagement for brands and attendees in my vision I see a Sims trade show style engagement. Imagine being able to virtually walk a show early, then having exactly who you want to meetup with once you are walking the show. AMAZING!!!! In this episode Adelia and I also touch on the need to listen to the guidance of shelter in place, avoiding big crowds and while she is seeing all of her events planned for the next 60 to 90 days reschedule, she is confident that when we come out of this we will all be working together even better than before. Cannabis events or people looking to see what is going on in the industry make sure sign up here EventHi follow them on Instagram @Eventhi.io. You can also contact Adelia Carrillo on LinkedIN. Weldon decided upon his release that he was going to fight for the inmates he left behind, citing Luke Scarmazzo who is doing 22 years for running a dispensary in California. Mission [GREEN] part of The Weldon Project is dedicated to funding social change and financial aid for those still serving time for cannabis related offenses. Weldon continues his pursuit in cannabis by launching REEForm a California cannabis brand aimed at donating $100 (on an inmates books) per inmate incarcerated for a cannabis offense. Under the moniker "it's time for criminal justice REEForm". Distributed by Calyx Distribution, Angelos looks to provide financial relief to those still left behind bars. Kush Supply Co started a social equity program after hearing about Weldon's story and felt he should be the first recipient of it providing assistance with packaging costs. All of us in the cannabis industry need to step up, people are still serving prison sentences while we enjoy the legalization of the plant. Make sure to visit The Weldon Project and support Mission [GREEN] with a donation. Follow Weldon on Instagram @WeldonAngelos.
