ABOUT FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM // APPALACHIAN INVESTORS ALLIANCE

Hi, I'm Steve Mercil. I'm here in upstate New York as I'm biking to the area, getting to Portland, Maine, because I've been biking across the country to raise money for a fellowship program. What's that tell us a program about the fellowship, we'll provide a $10,000 stipend for you to work part time with our organization, to get in the room for the non Hollywood version of Shark Tank, and interact with our investment groups, and entrepreneurs to learn about this business of investing. I've been involved in economic development for over 40 years, I've spent a career helping entrepreneurs get capital from the business, so putting investors and entrepreneurs together. So this is a way for me to give back to others, to learn what I learned. It's an apprenticeship business. It's hard to learn this in a book. So we're going to give you a chance to get in the room and be a practice and learn about this industry, how it works so that you can be successful in your endeavors of the future. I want to stress that this is for young people, you don't necessarily have to be going to call it but it could be a young person working in a career want to make a career change. My ideal candidate was maybe someone who has less experience and maybe less connections than others, but shows a real commitment to learning and being coached and a desire to make a difference in the world, not just for themselves but for others.  The fellowship program reminds me of a geographical location I visited on the bike trip. Lake Itasca, Lake Itasca is the headwaters of the Mississippi River. The amazing thing of it is, it's literally a stream that's probably not much wider than my living room. And you can see when you're there, you can see from the film that the the pores on the rocks and, and it's very tiny. And then that, that that mighty river becomes bigger and bigger and bigger, and you get down to Redway, Minnesota, Lake Pepin, and it's the largest natural lake on the Mississippi. It's just beautiful scenery. It's the same for the fellowship program. You start out small and you grow and you have a big impact on other people. If you're interested in this fellowship program, the Appalachian industrial Alliance website we'll be posting applications in January of 2022.  LEARN MORE ABOUT THE PROGRAM: https://bizinmotion.org/ SIGN UP AS A FELLOWSHIP CANDIDATE: LINK COMING SOON!  APPALACHIAN INVESTORS ALLIANCE: https://appalachianinvestors.org/ CONNECT WITH BIZINMOTION: ✅ Website: https://bizinmotion.org/✅ Facebook: facebook.com/bizinmotion ✅ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/bizinmotion✅ Podcast: https://anchor.fm/bizinmotion✅ Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/7mIIH8if4nXTX2GHZ3KmlM -----  🎥 CHARLES EDMUND ADAMS | Film Director • Cinematographer • Aerial Cinematographer VIMEO: vimeo.com/user99636616 IG: www.instagram.com/charlesedmundadams/ LINKEDIN: www.linkedin.com/in/charlesedmundadams/

REFLECTIONS: BIZINMOTION FINALE // FELLOWSHIP LAUNCH

This film is the gathering of the weekly recap films created throughout Steve Mercil's trans-America bike ride. On September 6th, 2021 Steve began the ride of 3,702 miles. #bizinmotion •••  I'm Steve Mercil and I'm biking 3700 miles across America, really as a celebration of entrepreneurship and communities. The Fellowship program is about allowing young people to get in the rooms with investors and entrepreneurs. To learn how that whole system of raising money and growing a company actually occurs. It's sort of like the non Hollywood version of Shark Tank. Why the bicycling, I'm a bicycle enthusiast, I've often bicycle than done tours. And I thought I could combine two passions into one. And I think the bicycle trip is kind of like starting a company, you got to plan your route, you got to plan your business, you got to try to fund it, you got to carry it out and execute it, you're gonna have good days and bad days. In biking. It's good bike filling days and rainy days and hard days. And sometimes you don't get what done what you want, and you got to be flexible. But you have a goal at the end. Some people ask me, Why am I starting this bike right at Cape this appointment. And there's a couple reasons for it. Because that's where Lewis and Clark ended their Odyssey and overwintered there. And it was actually very tough. It's another metaphor for entrepreneurship, pioneering spirit, using advisors being open, being flexible, finding your way, they started this two and a half year long, pioneering trip without really knowing how they were going to get there. And they had to find the resources along the way, almost starved to death more than once. And if it wasn't for Sacagawea, they would have never made it. It's again, often when you're starting a company, you need that advisor to help you find your way and give you insights and she was that person.  ABOUT THE RIDE: Imagine having the ability to fund a fellowship to teach tomorrow’s community leaders about entrepreneurship, innovation, and leadership with the click of a button. WEEK VIII & IX RECAP

Weeks 8 through 9 marked the start of the final phase of the trip. I could see the seasons starting to take a turn into winter. In fact, we were forced to leave Lake Geneva a day earlier than plan to beat some bad weather on the ferry right. What we experienced over the next two weeks, were days of cold and rain. This time was made all the harder from a head cold I got in Michigan, and stayed with me through Ohio. I went back and forth from free riding 100% on the bike to being outright sick, lacking any kind of energy the bike. Still, with this being the case, I kept the schedule and kept pushing. There were days I just didn't even want to get up. I knew when I plan this whole trip, the warm days in Montana and sunshine in North Dakota, we're going to get behind us. And in the second phase, especially once we've got toward Pennsylvania, we were going to get into some cold and ugly weather. And in fact, in Pennsylvania, we got our first glimpse of snow. A lot of people were concerned when I told them about the trip, and then that wouldn't end until November in the far north of the country and Portland, Maine. And these days are cold and wind and rain prove true to that worry. So even through the cold and rain I kept resilient and I pushed through so I could make it to the coast.  Subscribe to get updates along Steve's journey, learn about the world of long-distance biking and exclusive interviews with entrepreneurial guests! 🚵  ✅ Website: https://bizinmotion.org/✅ Facebook: facebook.com/bizinmotion ✅ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/bizinmotion✅ Podcast: https://anchor.fm/bizinmotion✅ Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/7mIIH8if4nXTX2GHZ3KmlM -----  🎥 CHARLES EDMUND ADAMS | Film Director • Cinematographer • Aerial Cinematographer  VIMEO: vimeo.com/user99636616 IG: www.instagram.com/charlesedmundadams/ LINKEDIN: www.linkedin.com/in/charlesedmundadams/

Wheatfield Gardens | Niagara, NY // ENTREPRENUER SPOTLIGHT

ABOUT WHEATFIELD GARDENS: At Wheatfield Gardens, we are leading the way to meet the rising consumer demand for locally grown, locally consumed, pesticide-free, fresh produce. To learn more about our sustainably grown butterhead lettuce, we invite you to get in touch today:  WEBSITE: http://wheatfieldgardens.com/FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Wheatfield%20Gardens/357416631256714/INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/wheatfield_gardens/ TRANSCRIPT: When we made it to Buffalo, we had the opportunity. This is a company that I've been working with a group of investors in southwest New York about investing in called Wheatfield gardens. They're unique in that they have a highly original and innovative technology which allows them to use waste natural gas to power the greenhouse. In doing this, they dramatically decrease the cost to power their production, in turn create a highly effective system. Sean Noda, the chief cultivator was kind enough to show us around.  What you're going to see out this greenhouse is a three quarter of an acre production facility. We grow everything in deep water culture. So essentially the plants are floating on graphs. We actually have the capability to produce over 25,000 units of lettuce a week. The way this system works is it uses our chilled water technology to pull in warm moist air drops it out as a condensation and blows out cooler, drier air, the water that's recaptured actually goes into a large holding tank. And we reuse that water for all our needs cleaning, irrigating benches, and so on. The whole system is based on 33 days for butterhead lettuce in the wintertime, that's a little difficult to achieve. Just because in Western New York, our natural light levels are very low. We do use supplemental lighting but quite frankly, nothing's as good as the sun. You'll probably find that this is one of the more pleasant, environmentally pleasing greenhouses to walk through even on a sunny day.  Explain a little bit what are the advantages of code generator for growing operators. So the code Gen is essentially going to reduce our electric consumption. by burning natural gas we can both produce electric to run lights and basically supply electric for most of our needs in the facility. And at the same time we can harvest co2 off of it. We can pump that into the greenhouse and the plants will use that for the photosynthetic process to grow faster.  Subscribe to get updates along Steve's journey, learn about the world of long-distance biking and exclusive interviews with entrepreneurial guests! 🚵  ✅ Website: https://bizinmotion.org/✅ Facebook: facebook.com/bizinmotion ✅ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/bizinmotion✅ Podcast: https://anchor.fm/bizinmotion✅ Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/7mIIH8if4nXTX2GHZ3KmlM -----  🎥 CHARLES EDMUND ADAMS | Film Director • Cinematographer • Aerial Cinematographer  VIMEO: vimeo.com/user99636616 IG: www.instagram.com/charlesedmundadams/ LINKEDIN: www.linkedin.com/in/charlesedmundadams/

SHARON, VT // VLOG 51

VLOG 51: We went from Fort Ticonderoga to Sharon, Vermont. Long bike ride, long day that did go up a really big mountain called Green Mountain. Beautiful pass and there was about four or five inches of snow on the ground but not on the highway obviously or we wouldn't have made it overt the pass. So it was a kind of a cool day but it didn't rain, didn't snow. So only two more days to go! So please press that like button and don't forget, this is a ride to raise money for a fellowship. GILSON SNOW | NEW BERLIN, PA // ENTREPRENUER SPOTLIGHT

ABOUT GILSON SNOW: From the classroom, to the stable, to the fastest growing independent brand in snow sports.  Borrowing concepts from surfing and sailing, middle school science teachers Nicholas Gilson and Austin Royer led a class project exploring fluid dynamics in snow.  The year-long effort twisted through countless failures, including a board Austin described as like “trying to ride a canoe down the mountain.” Each failure offered a new insight, ultimately leading to 3 significant innovations and the early Gilson design.  In 2013, Nick and Austin launched the company out of the classroom with their students.  WEBSITE: gilsonsnow.com INSTA: instagram.com/gilsonsnow/ FB: facebook.com/GilsonSnow  Subscribe to get updates along Steve's journey, learn about the world of long-distance biking and exclusive interviews with entrepreneurial guests! 🚵  ✅ Website: https://bizinmotion.org/✅ Facebook: facebook.com/bizinmotion ✅ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/bizinmotion✅ Podcast: https://anchor.fm/bizinmotion✅ Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/7mIIH8if4nXTX2GHZ3KmlM

VLOG 48: Here we are in West Leyden. So we biked about 70 miles from Fulton to West Leyden. It was a very beautiful ride as we kind of went up quite a bit of hills through some beautiful forested state park areas with streams, obviously trout streams and lakes. And it kind of reminded us a little bit of Montana and northern Minnesota combined. Beautiful area. Nice little towns, very serene surrounding. So it was a nice day. Sun was out, cool fall day, kind of a hard ride because of the steep hills, but we made it through and tomorrow's a rest day. We're looking forward to that and then on over the mountains to Portland. WEEK 5-7 RECAP

So this last several weeks, five through seven, were about getting home. Home to me is a place where you have deep roots and connections. So I think I said when we were getting it in North Dakota, I was feeling close to home because I spent time, significant time in North Dakota. And specifically, I was determined to get to my brothers in Minnesota, northern Minnesota, Theta Lake. Because my siblings and my step siblings, were going to all meet for a celebration of my Step Mom's Memorial because she died during COVID. And we couldn't go to the funeral. So this was the first chance for family to get together. So for me, home was northern Minnesota where I grew up with my siblings. And so special place, the roads and and the places we were all familiar and close with my family. So I was highly motivated to make it to my brother's place some time for that memorial. And then right after that, we're headed toward Lake Geneva, where my home is. This is coming from and where my wife and step sons and daughters live and my two dogs. And so I was very motivated to get home. And I think there was one day as we were traveling, and we were having a tough day and I was saying to my son, I just want to get home. There's a saying that there could be no joy without suffering. And so part of the part of the suffering gets you the joy. But part of that joy gets you to the suffering and family and friends and people I know throughout the years that I've worked with entrepreneurs and investors and others are really good people and that emotional support has allowed me to go forward with this. I mean, when I'm on the bike, it's kind of just a meditative sort of state. And it just feels right for me to be on that bike biking. My son was a little surprised, I think he was saying, how he is always impressed that I can just keep going. And I say, "Well I just kind of get in. It's a meditative kind of feeling. I just enjoy being on the bike and feeling the earth. Feeling the wind in my face. It's kind of like meditating, serene feeling for me. So on the bike, I'm at home in the South. 🚴 #bizinmotion ABOUT THE RIDE: Imagine having the ability to fund a fellowship to teach tomorrow’s community leaders about entrepreneurship, innovation, and leadership with the click of a button.
