This week Mike and Charlie catch up on the start of bow season 2025. Charlie began the season by taking his girlfriend hunting, while Mike starts the season in Senegal. Eventually the conversation turns towards how hunting a heavily cut property is much like learning to hunt a new piece, and we even dip into some talk of the impending ski season.
There are people who support us and it allows us to keep doing this. Please take a moment to check out these businesses.

This week is a short check in from Senegal. Just some quick thoughts about church, community, and why the woods might not be the church we think of it being.

This week we connect with a fellow outdoorsman and brother in the Lord. Patrick Edwards is the host of the Angling Wisdom podcast and is an avid angler with the goal of "catching everything." Listening to Pat talk about fishing in Wyoming was a bit like a travel log. It left us wanting to make plans to head west. Patrick is also a father, a husband, and is active in his faith. Even if your interest in fishing is only marginal, this is a conversation you don't want to miss.

Charlie and Mike return this week with a conversation about life, life around camp, the coming deer season and the competition around hunting. The advent of cell cams, the exercise of naming bucks, and social media have all contributed to the loss of the traditional hunting mindset. Our pursuit of bigger and or better has robbed us of the heart and joy of hunting. This year we're taking it back.

Danielle Atkins is a forester and a real estate agent in Southwest Georgia, but she is so much more than that. Our conversation today showed her heart for Jesus, her passion for her children, and her desire to help others learn wise stewardship practices. This episode pulls a bit on the heart strings and yet filled me with joy. I so appreciated this conversation and all that Danielle is doing in the industry but also as a woman of faith, a wife, and a mom.

Cody Altizer and Erich Long from https://www.instagram.com/the_dear_hunter_project/ join us this week. I have been following these two gentlemen for a number of years and there are few in the habitat industry that show the care and attention to their craft that these two do. There are even less in the industry that have a heart and a passion for the plight of the grouse. The solution to the loss of grouse is pretty simple - chainsaws and fire, well managed forests, and yet it's not being done. This conversation gives some insights on why we aren't doing what is needed to save the grouse and how we can get involved. Please listen to this episode and allow your heart to get connected - lets not loose the grouse on our watch.

This week's episode is a little different than some of our others. Typically we focus in on Faith, Family or Stewardship but this week we touch all bases and then some. We are really excited to introduce you to this family. Davey is a logger and runs a growing YouTube Chanel and his wife Mindy a recent cancer survivor is homeschooling four children and running a YouTube Channel of her own. Throughout the podcast we are joined by a couple of their beautiful children. It was such a joy to see faith, family, and stewardship come together in a single family. Check this episode out and get a glimpse into how difficult and yet rewarding life can be while following the Lord.

Ever dream of hunting Africa but think it is too expensive or too complicated logistically? We did too, but today's conversation with Boris Basso, owner of Basso Safaris in South Africa and his US rep Chad Heflin has us thinking that it is very doable and provides more bang for the buck. Boris shares his story about how he got into hunting, how he began as a PH and now as the owner of an outfitter. Chad and Boris give a great picture of what is involved logistically from start to finish. Malaria, archery versus rifle, the role hunting plays in conservation, lodge life, and taxidermy are just a few of the topics touched on. It was such an honor to be able to hear from Boris and to reconnect with Chad. If you are interested in possibly booking a safari with them check them out at the links below and get in touch with Chad Heflin.

On this episode we reconnect with good friends Nate St James and Aaron Curtis for an old fashion deer camp bull session. The conversation ebb and wanes from topics like the state of hunting and a serious fall from a saddle to the difficulties of remembering your HuntFishNY password and the hiccups. This episode has laughs and great insights.

Episode 102 is an informative and insightful conversation about managing habitat for wildlife with a specific eye on turkey. Our guest Curtis Shaffer is a forester for NWTF working in cooperation with NRCS here in Western NY. Curtis is a third generation forester, and a deer and turkey hunter. Educated at the Wanakena Ranger School, and Paul Smiths College, he is intelligent and has an amazing grasp on best practices when it comes to managing for wild life. Another rapid (shorter) episode this week. We finish up our series Creating a Theology of Stewardship. We have previously talked about God's Blueprint, Stewarding the Land, The fall of Man, and today we look at Stewarding the Creatures. Charlie and Mike have a conversation today about visiting the national parks in Arizona and Utah. How their experiences were different and similar. They talk about pickle and pinto bean pie, loving the parks to death, and finding balance between preservation and enjoying God's creation. They also converse a bit about the new adventure of raising pigs, and coming to a place of acceptance regarding the BCAproperty. Our third BCA Rapid (short) continues our conversation about our theology of stewardship. In this episode we dive into the concept of land ownership versus leasing the land. Scripture takes us to an understanding that we don't and never will "own" the land. We are to be caretakers, stewards, but the earth is God's not ours, we are simply leasing it. We love interacting with you all, drop us an email or message on social media and if you enjoyed the podcast leave us a like or even better a review. As always, please support those who are supporting us.

This rapid episode starts with an apology. Back on episode 91 and prior, we shared that we had some trees damaged by a farmer who was clearing land around us. I was upset, hurt, even angry. I never should have gotten in front of a mic until I had time to process. As a result I made some harsh claims such as farmers being greedy. I painted with too broad of a brush. I believe when you offend publicly, you should also apologize publicly and so the first part of this episode is just that.
The second part of the episode walks us through the downfall of humanity. How sin has entered in to our world and the ramifications of that which we see on the land even today. The original man and woman (Adam & Eve) believed they were on the same level as God. We the created will never be equal to the Creator and most of our sinful acts come from our efforts to be the Creator.
