Barbarossa: Apocalypse in the East
With a Whimper, Not a Bang: Barbarossa November 30 - December 5

Here it is guys, the last episode of the main series. I hope you enjoy it, and if you have any suggestions for bonus episodes or just any questions, please email me at hfstevens@uchicago.edu. Hopefully that email will be easier to remember.

These bonus episodes will come out less often but more consistently than the main series, as I'm going to be transitioning to work on my next series on the Second Sino-Japanese War. I'll update you guys on that as I make progress.

Anyway, I'd like to thank you guys for everything. I'm honored that you've taken time out of your day to listen. I hope you have a great week and I hope I'll talk to you again soon.

Barbarossa: Apocalypse in the East
Dying in the Snow: Barbarossa November 15 - November 29th

Hey guys! I sincerely apologize for the lateness. I'll try and have the next episode up asap to make it up to you. This is a normal episode, and the next episode will be a combination of the last week of the campaign and my analysis on Barbarossa overall. At the end of this episode I talk about my plans for bonus episodes and for the next podcast, so check that out if you're interested. Otherwise, just enjoy!

If you have suggestions for extra episodes of this podcast, topics for new podcasts after this is done, or just general questions or comments, let me know at apocalypseintheast@gmail.com.

Barbarossa: Apocalypse in the East
The Freeze Before Moscow: Barbarossa November 1 - November 14th

Not much to say guys, this is a bit of a short episode as the front is relatively quiet this first half of November. You'll get more of your share of action in the coming episode(s), I guarantee that. Speaking of which, I'm debating whether to split the rest of Barbarossa into two episodes or do it in one long episode. If you have thoughts on that, let me know.

Also, if you have suggestions for extra episodes of this podcast, topics for new podcasts after this is done, or just general questions or comments, let me know at apocalypseintheast@gmail.com.

Hey guys! Hope you're all having a good week. We're in the last few episodes, we've probably got two left, so I'll try and make them as good as possible. Though we will have extra episodes covering things I couldn't address in depth in the main series. For now though, I hope you enjoy this episode. As usual, sources, contact info, and a map are below.

Eye of the Hurricane: Barbarossa September 30 - October 14

Hey guys! I'm really sorry about the wait. I've had finals and I hurt my tongue, which still isn't fully healed, but here we are. Today we begin our coverage of Operation Typhoon, which takes us into the final phase of Operation Barbarossa. Not much else to say today. As usual, sources and an animated map in the description.

Prelude to Typhoon: Barbarossa September 20 - September 30

Hey guys! We're moving towards the last phase of  Barbarossa. This episode is structured to take us right up to the beginning of Operation Typhoon, so it's a bit shorter than normal. We cover not just the events on the frontlines, but also the preparations for Typhoon and tie up loose ends. That's it for this week. As usual, sources and maps in the description.

Nightmare at Kiev: Barbarossa September 5 - September 20

Hey guys! Big episode today, I hope you enjoy! I've realized we're actually coming to the last five or so episodes of the main part of the podcast, though I'll publish some analysis episodes afterwards, as well as bonus episodes on interesting topics I missed or couldn't cover enough in the main episodes. If you want to suggest ideas for that, or any other reason you want to reach out, contact me at apocalypseintheeast@gmail.com. Otherwise, I'll talk to you soon!

The Trap Begins to Shut: Barbarossa August 21 - September 4

Hey guys! I'm back, and I really do have to apologize for how late this episode is. College has been crazy, and I'll do my best to make sure it won't happen again. Anyway, today's episode is a pretty short one. The plot will really thicken in the next few episodes. Anyway, hopefully I can get the next episode out a little early. For now though, please enjoy.

Barbarossa: Apocalypse in the East
Flying the Red Banner: The Soviet Air Force

This is the longest episode yet, and I suspect that it will remain that way. I just was working with a lot of great material and I didn't want to have to split this into two episodes. Next week, as the episode can attest to, will be the first episode on Barbarossa itself. But comparing this episode to the previous one, on the Luftwaffe makes me want to redo that one, but that's for some time in the future. Until then, I hope you enjoy, and I'll see you next week. If you want to get in touch with me about anything, its apocalypseintheast@gmail.com. Thanks!

Bird of Prey: The Luftwaffe on the Eve of Barbarossa

Hey guys, here a breakdown of the Luftwaffe (German Air Force), from Germany's experience in the air during the First World War, to covert developments in the 1920s, to its expansion into a modern war machine, and its operations in 1939 and 1940, all the way up to June 22, 1941. You'll also hear about the planes themselves, their organization, and air doctrine. You can expect a video like this, but for the Red Air Force very soon, probably about two days.

Barbarossa: Apocalypse in the East
Steel and Flesh: Armor on the Eve of Barbarossa
Hey guys, welcome to Barbarossa: Apocalypse in the East. I'm your host, Harry Stevens. I know I promised you guys the first main content episode, but I'm waiting for some of my books to ship and I'm fiddling around with structure for these episodes. So as a consolation, you get an episode on Soviet and German tanks. I cover the invention and early usages of the tank, German and Soviet tank development in the interwar era, and take a look at the main models of tanks. I also look at some peripheral factors. Hopefully next week I can get you the main content, which I'm sure you're craving, but if not, next week you'll get a similar episode like this, but about aircraft. If you have any comments, concerns, or questions, email me at apocalypseintheeast@gmail.com. Until then, I'll see you next week.

Barbarossa: Apocalypse in the East
Introduction to Barbarossa Part 4B: Hitler Triumphant? (June 1940 to June 1941)
Hey guys, really sorry for the lateness. Classes are really stealing my attention. But this is the 2nd part of the two part summary (a very brief summary) of the war from its beginning to the invasion of the USSR. In the last episode we covered the war from the invasion of Poland to the Fall of France. Here, we look at the Battle of Britain, the North and East African campaigns, Greece, Yugoslavia, and war crimes in this period. With this published, we'll be moving on to main content, interspersed with in depth context episode on various aspects of the Eastern Front I can't really get into in the main episodes. Like an overall description of the strategic outlook, armor, or air power. If you have any suggestions for these episodes or any suggestions, comments, or even complaints in general, email me at apocalypseintheeast@gmail.com. Until then, I'll see you later.

Barbarossa: Apocalypse in the East
Introduction to Barbarossa Part 4A: The Match is Lit (September 1939- June 1940)

Hey guys. Harry here. So you know how I promised you this would be the last introduction episode? Well I'm modifying that a little. This topic was so long that it was about two episodes worth, so I'll record the second part and post it tomorrow. Today we've got the invasion of Poland, the low countries, and the Battle of France. Tomorrow is everything else from around June 1940 to June 1941. Going over the recording, I might be speaking a little quickly. I apologize for that and hope you'll bear with me as I get better at this. I'm also getting a better mic soon. In any case, as usual, I hope you enjoy, and if you have anything to tell me about the show or just in general, I'm available at apocalypseintheeast@gmail.com. See you soon.

Barbarossa: Apocalypse in the East
Introduction to Barbarossa Part 3: Red Bear Rising.

Hey, guys, here's the 3rd of 4 introductory episodes. I apologize for the delay between Episode 2 and this one, I've recently moved in to college and things were, and still are hectic, which also means that their are a few more cuts in this episode than usual. In this episode, we cover the history of the USSR prior to WWII. So that's the Russian Civil War, the power struggle between Trotsky and Stalin, Soviet economic and military development, as well as the various atrocities and abuses during the period. The next episode we'll cover the course of the war from its beginning in 1939 up to June 22, 1941 when (spoiler alert), Operation Barbarossa begins. I'll try and put the next episode out early to compensate for my lateness with this one.

If you have any questions, suggestions, or comments, email me at apocalypseintheeast@gmail.com. Until then, enjoy the episode and I'll see you soon.

-I accidently said the Holodomor was from 1922-1923. I meant to say 1932-1933. A slip of the tongue. My bad.

Introduction to Barbarossa Part 2: Fascism's Free Lunch

So this is the second of what I think will be four episodes of introduction before we get to the meat of the discussion. This one will be on the rise of fascism in Germany, the next one will be on the USSR, and the last one will be on WWII from 1939-1941. I apologize for the speech being a little fast in the beginning, I'm trying to work on that. Again, if you have any questions or comments, I'm at apocalypseintheeast@gmail.com.

Thanks!
