028 | The Biggest Lie I've Told Myself.. [OTT]

Friends.. In this episode of Off the Top:

Learnings: i) The biggest lie I’ve told myself is that I need to ask for permission.. To chase my dreams & take real swings.. “Everything you want in life is on the other side of fear”, ii) ways to find comfort in boredom -> observing the subtleties of life in solitude, iii) the core ingredient of being interested vs. interesting.. (hint: you can learn something from every person you interact with)

Challenges: i) the battle of showing “authenticity” on Off the Top episodes.. Wanting to show both sides that are both positive & negative emotional states but at times feeling the weight of heavier dialogue, ii) producing more than I consume, which means I must restrict monkey brain or it wins.. always.

Wins: i) the core ingredients of a mastermind (accountability partner & celebrating the small wins), ii) prove to yourself you can do hard things.. Lessons from the quintessential iceberg (:

Eyes On: @tscheeelo intimate sets, a crowd of 15-25 folks enjoying music in what looks to be hyper-presence. Sometimes less is more (see: tiny desk by NPR)..

Extra Credit: this TV ad by Sony shook me.. 250k bouncy balls released down a hill in SF. Going beyond the expected to deliver a top-tier experience. Well done.

027 | A Different Kind of Awesome, Lessons from a Hot Dog Stand and Walk & Talks [OTT]

Friends, this week on Off the Top I discuss:

Learnings: Lessons from a hot dog stand.. Giving when it is hardest, expecting nothing in return. Stop keeping score.

Challenges: Using fear vs. reward as motivation.. "What's the best case scenario?"

Wins: "It's a different kind of awesome"

Eyes on: Craig Mod's Walk & Talks.. week long adventures with unique folks, one dinner topic every night.

Extra Credit: "Let's normalize giving advice to others that encourages their own inner wisdom over our idea of what's best for them" - Amber Lyon

026 | What if You Already Won the Game of Life, Not Missing a Habit Twice, & the Formula for Nostalgia / Happiness [OTT]

Friends.. In this Parisian episode of Off the Top:

Learnings: “Did you really learn the lesson” - Shaan from MFM.. Many times we are lazy with our lessons learned, ensuring you are taking away the right lesson helps build the right framework; Nostalgia = Memory - Anxiety (cc: Tadz’s Trend Report / Lydia Keating), What if you decided you already won the game of life? How would that contribute to your level of contentment?

Challenges: Negative self talk around short form content and how many ears the show is reaching.. Reminding myself that adding creative constraints and iteration + time is just the name of the game.

Wins: Experiential pod’ing at Storm King Art Museum

Extra Credit: Treat for you if you make it this far..

025 | Isaac French, Entrepreneur & Designer - From Bookkeeping to a $7M Micro-resort Biz

Welcome back to At the Table. Today’s guest is Isaac French, a builder and designer who turned five overgrown acres outside Waco into one of the most thoughtful microresorts in the country.

Isaac started as a bookkeeper. He had no architecture degree, no big team behind him BUT had a clear vision, a deep love for design & artistry, and the ability to dream.. That vision became Live Oak Lake, a Scandinavian-inspired retreat of seven cabins nestled around the water. Within 18 months, it was running at 94% occupancy, had a viral (and loyal) audience online, and 2 years later sold for $7 million.

In this episode, we talk about how he brought the project to life, the role of beauty and simplicity in hospitality, and the importance of carving your own path. Isaac also shares where he finds inspiration, hacks for building a space & the most important project he’s ever built (:

I have a lot of respect for Isaac. He’s a phenomenal storyteller & full of energy to inspire the masses.

Big love.

024 | Life Is Coming From You, Not At You [OTT]

Friends.. In this episode of Off the Top, I discuss:

Learnings: Timothee nailed it.. "You can be the master of your fate, the captain of your soul.. but you have to realize life is coming from you not at you".. Choosing your hard and remembering it's shaping you into the person you will become.

Challenges: The patience game.. "slowly erupting" from Jermaine on 90 Proof. Focusing on your craft, business, development until its time and it chooses to be heard. Reminding myself not to focus on the outcomes.

Wins: As a recovering please pleaser, "clear is kind" is always top of mind.. A favorite from Mama Hav, quoted by Brene Brown.

Eyes on: The Network raises its pre-seed (website); major congrats to Andres and team.

Extra Credit: A hack that may or may not involve toes..

023 | LJ Troilo, Founder of Ivee & Prana Bathhouse - Learnings From A Silent Meditation Retreat, Mixing Wellness and Entrepreneurship, & the Loneliness Epidemic

Teammm - welcome back to At the Table. Today’s guest is LJ Troilo, a serial entrepreneur who lives at the intersection of business, wellness, technology, and human connection.

In this episode, we talk about the core lessons from our shared Vipassana meditation retreat, LJ’s path to building multiple companies, and why third spaces are essential in a world that’s becoming more & more isolated. We also explore how he’s thinking about solving the loneliness epidemic; not through products, but through intentional design, presence and.. hugs (:

LJ is one of the most unique thinkers & personalities we’ve had on the show. We grabbed a coffee right before recording, and while we were ordering he casually solved a Rubik’s cube sitting on the counter in under 90 seconds. A man of many talents but more importantly, a beautiful soul. Hope you enjoy.

Big love.

021 | Jai Howitt, Founder of Art of Mondays - Finding Your Own Path

Welcome back to At the Table. Today’s guest is Jai Howitt, an entrepreneur, filmmaker, and founder of three multi-million dollar businesses, including Art of Mondays, one of the fastest-growing global founder communities.

Jai’s story hasn’t been linear. One of seven siblings, he skipped university and by 22 had scaled a creative agency to over $1 million in revenue. He simultaneously co-founded Naming This Later, an e-commerce brand that reached 15,000 customers and became a seven-figure business before he gave away his half of the company to reimagine what he wanted to build next.. After a chapter of deep introspection, Art of Mondays was born, a global community helping founders build meaningful lives alongside meaningful work.

In this episode, we talk about leaving good for great, the importance of failure and the core principles behind building a sustainable life as a founder. Jai also shares how he designs spaces inside his community and what it looks like to build in public with intention and authenticity. Jai is one of the most prominent lifestyle founders of our generation.. I learned a lot from this one and hope you do too.

Big love.

020 | The Next Stage of Life & When Enough is.. Enough [OTT]

Friends - this week on Off the Top:

Learnings: A star wide receiver reading a book on 'Inner Excellence' during the NFL Playoffs. Joy comes from love, aim to serve in secret.

Challenge: Short form content.. If I asked you to remember a reel you watched yesterday, could you? How about the last week? What if I asked you about a song that you heard or a book that resonated? Your answer is likely different, short form content is inherently cheap. Breaking through that barrier is an art.

Wins: If you can't be happy with a coffee, you won't be happy with a yacht - Naval; Toronto learnings

Eyes on: Jude Lebayon - an all star designer that has an eye unlike one I've worked with before

Extra Credit:

  • Don't create tension where there doesn't need to be.. Release where you can as 99% of the time it isn't serving you. What would it look like if this were easy? If it were fun? - Tim Ferriss / Carson
  • LANDO hitting 50k streams with Rain.

017 | Tadzio Dlugolecki - The Architecture of a Meaningful Life

Welcome back to At the Table. Today’s guest is Tadzio Dlugolecki — a writer, what I call a ‘cultural thinker’, and co-founder of Lobster Club, the rotating gallery and residency program that’s been quietly reshaping the art world. He’s the voice behind Joy Arbitrage, a substack that explores what it means to live a lighter and brighter life; and an advisor to Silver Arts Project.

In this episode, we dig into some of Tadzio’s core principles for living a more intentional life. We talk about his “2 Summers Left” mindset and how to tap into the good ole’ days by shifting how we live in the present moment. We get into his concept of 2%ers, why climbing Cringe Mountain is often the fastest path to growth and how his bi-annual retreats help him reset and stay on course. We also explore the difference between deep and cheap dopamine and what it means to choose your struggles before life chooses them for you.

Conversations with Tadzio always leave me feeling more energy. He makes you want to slow down, rethink your social defaults and start experimenting with what actually brings you joy. Big love.

Challenges: Learning to detach from "good" or "bad labels; "The Chinese Farmer" by Alan Watts (The Book; Lectures)

Wins: Finding an accountability partner (meditation consistency & the NYC marathon..). The physical representation of the in-between chapter.

Eyes on: Pedram: one of my favorite live performers and the mastermind behind our music intro.

015 | Sean Hotchkiss, Coach & Author (Fmr GQ Writer) – Facing Your Inner Shadow

Today’s guest is Sean Hotchkiss. He’s a former GQ writer turned men’s coach and the author behind One Man’s Heart, a newsletter exploring what it means to live with more honesty, vulnerability, and depth.

Sean’s story started in the fast lane: fashion weeks, parties, and bylines at one of the top men’s magazines in the world. But after years of chasing what he thought would bring him happiness, he walked away to do something harder: face himself. That path took him deep into therapy, coaching, and shadow work, and it’s now the foundation of how he helps other men reconnect with themselves.

In this episode, we talk about self-discovery, how to develop a healthier relationship with both the masculine and the feminine, and what it really takes to face the deeper parts of yourself. We also dig into finding peace in uncertainty, why slowing down might be the bravest thing you can do, and the lessons he’s learned guiding other men through this important, inner work.

Sean speaks with a level of honesty that’s rare. This one left me thinking long after we wrapped. Hope it does the same for you. We recorded this remotely; our audio at times cuts out or clips.. Did our best to rectify but please bear with us (:

Big love.

013 | Anne Mahlum, Founder of Solidcore & Back on My Feet - Building an Empire With Purpose

Welcome back to At the Table. Today’s guest is Anne Mahlum. She’s the founder of Solidcore and Back on My Feet, two companies built on one belief: people can change their lives when given the chance.

Back on My Feet started from a personal place. Anne grew up watching her dad struggle with addiction. She saw how hard it is to rebuild a life and how powerful it can be when someone believes in you. That insight led her to start a running club for people experiencing homelessness which grew into a thriving, national nonprofit helping thousands across the country.

A few years later, she emptied her savings to open the first Solidcore studio. No safety net, just a clear vision and a lot of grit. She grew it to nearly 2,000 employees, hundreds of thousands of clients and in 2023 sold the company for over $300 million.. Sharing millions with her team on the way out.

In this episode, we talk about the journey behind both businesses, how you can find your own unique purpose & break through fear as well as what it means to forge a path as a woman in spaces that weren’t necessarily built for you.

Anne caught absolute fire in this one.. our mic might never be the same (: She’s a mentor of mine and someone I hope you can learn from too.

Big love.

011 | Eli Snyder - Traveling to the Most “Dangerous” Countries in the World

Hi friends. Today I sit down with Eli Snyder, a man from my home town in Kansas who has made it his mission to visit every country in the world. What stands out most isn’t the number of countries he’s visited (+100), it’s how he’s doing it. Eli has chosen the road less traveled, immersing himself in places most western travelers wouldn’t dare to go, and doing it with humility, curiosity, and a real respect for the people & cultures he encountered along the way.

Whether he’s hiking through northern Afghanistan or leading a small group through the mountains of Albania, the work is the same.. To live & learn as a local.

In this episode, we talk about how Eli made the leap from corporate life to full-time exploration, what he’s learned through solitude and discomfort, and why he believes meaning lives in the places most people overlook. We get into some of his favorite (& scariest) stories from the road, the responsibility of documenting cultures that aren’t your own, how his group expeditions came to life, and a few of his go-to travel hacks.

We’re not in Kansas anymore (:

Big Love, Luke

009 | Flynn Skidmore, Therapist - Tools To Live A Better Life

Hi friends. Today I sit down with Flynn Skidmore — a licensed therapist and someone many consider to be one of the most impactful practitioners of our generation. He’s built a platform by naming the patterns most of us tend to avoid, myself included. But behind the reach and sharp delivery is someone who’s spent real time turning inward and doing the work for himself.

Flynn hasn’t bypassed the harder parts of his journey. He’s met them head-on. He’s done the work to understand his own pain, his patterns, and the stories he used to believe. And instead of hiding those parts, he’s used them as a compass — a way to deepen his own awareness and hold space for others to do the same.

In this episode, we explore how love and curiosity deepen growth and relationships, what somatic therapy has taught him about healing through the body, and how attachment styles show up in relationships. We also talk about the role AI might play in the future of therapy — a topic I think will only become more important over time.

There’s a groundedness in the way Flynn shares that makes complex inner work feel accessible. Not simple, but possible. This one cracked something open for me. Hope it does the same for you.

Onwards & upwards.
