It is often argued that Jesus could not be the promised Messiah because the previous Scriptures speak of Messiah as a victorious warrior, not as a victim who would endure extreme suffering, humiliation, and defeat. This is often made as a general point against the idea of Jesus being the expected Messiah and it is also often used specifically to deny that Jesus is the one foretold by the prophet Isaiah in the 53rd chapter of his prophecy. In this livestream we will look at this issue and see that, while it is true enough to say in response that the Messiah would first suffer and then enter into His glory, as Jesus Himself said, it is also true to say that Messiah is presented as a victorious warrior not merely subsequent to and in spite of His prior suffering but even in terms of it.
(Originally aired: June 1, 2025) In a previous broadcast I spoke about the relevance of Jerusalem's destruction to dating the New Testament writings in general and the Gospels in particular. This gave rise to a question about the role the Temple's Destruction played in the thought of early Christians.

In this episode we will look at the evidence for Markan authorship as well as the traditional view that Mark wrote for the benefit of Roman Christians on the basis of Peter's preaching and teaching.
In this episode we will look at what we can know of Mark from Scripture and church history.
I will look at an often unnoticed line of evidence that the authors of Scripture were concerned to write in a way that was clear so that the readers and hearers would understand.

(Originally Aired Apr 5, 2025) In this episode I will look at Rome's practice of praying to and through angels, which is idolatry, demonstrating that it is contrary to Scripture and the practice of the early church. I will also look at a text in Acts 8 which Rome and the East often point to in order to impugn the clarity of the word that God gave to convict, convert, and build up believers and to regulate the church's worship.
