In late 1790, Congress finds itself hopelessly divided over two issues. Northerners wanted to have the new Federal government assume state debt from the Revolutionary War. After losing his regiment, Colonel Ethan Allen attempts to raise a local force in Canada in an effort to capture Montreal. A larger loyalist force with Indian support runs down Allen's force and takes him prisoner. On September 26, 1775. Allen recounts an Indian's attempt to kill him after his capture.
