The Bronco Will Ride Again

The 2020 Ford Bronco is part of the $1.4 billion investment that Ford is making into its Michigan plants. Way back in 1966, Ford introduced its original SUV and cut a trail to the great outdoors that would be followed by generations of Americans. And now, Bronco is coming back, strapped with thrilling power and go-anywhere capability.

Michigan Central Station Investment

Ford is renovating the Michigan Central Depot in Corktown after a purchase of $90 million and announced a $1 billion restoration. Ford plans to bring 5,000 jobs to the building and surrounding area to work on autonomous and electric cars. The Michigan Central Station was dedicated in 1914 and brought generations to Michigan as the auto industry boomed. The last passenger train left the station on Jan. 5th 1988. Today, thousands of people attend tours of the newly opened facility.

Fiat Chrysler Mack Avenue Engine Complex

In Detroit, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV's Mack Avenue Jeep plant is now under aggressive 7 day a week construction. The Mack expansion is part of a $4.5 billion investment into five of the automaker's Michigan plants. $1.6 billion transformations of the Mack Avenue Engine Complex on the city's east side into an assembly plant to churn out new three-row, full-size Jeep and next-generation Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs. Those are key products to create the profits the carmaker needs to invest in its future and offer plug-in hybrids and eventually electric vehicles to meet federal emissions standards.

General Motors Goes Electric in Michigan

General Motors plans to retool its Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly plan to build electric trucks.

Continued operations of the plant as an electric-truck factory — combined with the ongoing transformation of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles' Mack Avenue Engine Complex into an assembly plant for traditional, plug-in hybrid and eventually electric Jeeps — would be a net positive for the city, said Sandy Baruah, CEO of the Detroit Regional Chamber.

Hamtramck Mayor Karen Majewski said the importance of her city's plant could not be overestimated "in terms of creating jobs, in terms of creating business for local businesses in our local communities, for creating and sustaining a vibrant manufacturing base in the country as a whole."
