A Is For Agrimony: Coffee-Stained Notes on Witchcraft
Episode 62: The History of Witchcraft - A Possibly Impossible Task - Part ONE
Here we go! This history is meant to be a primer, by which one can jump start their own exploration into deeper and more specific history based on their own cultural or traditional background. Otherwise we would need 100 episodes rather than 2! So, I hope this offers some insight and inspiration to start your digging. With Part One, we're starting off with practices from the Stone Age Eras, moving into Ancient civilizations, proceeding into the Middle Ages and finally ending with the Witch Trials that spanned the Middle Ages, Renaissance and Early Modern Era. Next week, we'll pick up at the Renaissance, where intellectual knowledge in the occult absolutely flourished, while also covering the pagan and magickal practices of the common folks and some communities that have been heavily borrowed from, but aren't acknowledged frequently enough. *I should note - individuals who were persecuted and executed during the witch trails were very very rarely actual witches and I will be going into detail about that fact next week! For now, Happy listening!   Thank you so much for listening! Please leave a review, wherever you're listening from. Episode 61: Fortune & Flora - The Fives of the Tarot & Elder, the Guardian Tree
Welp, the Fives of the Tarot kind of suck! But so do the situations that bring about our most valuable lessons in this life. So, lets level up together with a dive into the nature of these somewhat unsettling cards. It could be worse. You could have cut down an Elder Tree without asking permission and making an offering! We're also taking a close look at this incredibly magickal plant spirit, some folklore surrounding it, and how it can be a major player in your magickal practice today.     Thank you so much for listening! Episode 60: A Series of Symbols - The Pentagram & the Pentacle
Finally! Apologies for the delay on this episode... I hope it's worth the wait! Inspired by some good ole fashion Satanic Panic, I decided to start a new series on Symbols found throughout Witchcraft, Paganism, the Occult and Folk Traditions - starting off, of course, with the Pentagram and Pentacle. Let's take a look at its history, its mathematical perfection, its symbolic meaning today, compared to its historical meanings - and why it's... just... awesome! I'm also starting this episode off with a little tribute to my recently passed companion, Boone, who graced this planet with his incredible light for 16 years and 9 days. This episode is an offering to a new ancestor. Be blessed.    Thank you so much for listening! Please leave a review, wherever you're listening from. Episode 59: Fortune & Flora - The Fours of the Tarot and Basil, the Witch's Herb
It's time to dive into the FOURS of the Tarot! There's a whole lot in here about Security and Stability - all expressed through different elemental influences and seemingly overseen by our mighty Emperor. We've got this. And, equally fiery and Mars-ruled Basil brings luck, love, abundance and protection into the mix. This sexy little sucker is an incredibly aromatic herb that is just as magickal as it is medicinal. Episode 57: Fortune & Flora - The Threes of the Tarot and the Calendula Marigold Problem
It's time to get social, team up and leave ourselves open - even to heartbreak - as we embark upon the Threes of the Tarot. We'll touch numerology, astrology, folklore and mythology associated with these cards and then pull the full interpretations before we dive into the problem with Calendula and Marigold. These two magickal and medicinal powerhouses get confused too often - and it's not your fault! Lets take a look at why.  *Also, at this point, I'm just going to have to market my podcast as half tarot/witchcraft and half ASMR for unhinged people who like to listen to dogs running around at all times. Episode 50: New Year, New Season - Embracing the New Year & Setting Intentions for Magick and Growth
We may be days into 2024 but transitions and fresh starts don't happen instantly, so, let's talk about the process of taking stock, reflecting, shedding what no longer serves and then setting intentions for magick and growth in the coming year. I'm sharing some historic and folkloric bits about the New Year itself while also revealing some methods I use for taking advantage of this "clean slate" as an opportunity for expansion in 2024. Let's start being the gloriously magnificent and magickal beasts we were always meant to be - one step at a time.    Thank you so much for listening! Episode 49: THE CULMINATION - Fortune & Flora: The World and Ivy
This is the last episode before I come back from my break with Season 2 on Friday, January 5th, so it's pretty ideal to be able to finish up with the final card in the Major Arcana and the completion of the Fool's Journey through the Major Arcana! I'm also discussing Ivy, or Hedera Helix - an evergreen that doesn't get quite as much love as pine, spruce and fir during Winter Solstice Season but carries the energy of new beginnings and everlasting life, nonetheless. Episode 48: Winter Solstice and Yule, Plus Krampus and Other Holiday Spookiness
The Winter Solstice is coming! Let's talk about the longest night, AKA the shortest day, and how the modern celebration of Yule relates to its more ancient origins. We're also discussing some pagan mythology, including the Oak and Holly Kings, and then diving into the scarier folktales associated with this season, like Krampus, the Yule Cat and Gryla and her Yule Lads! But first, I have some things to say about the New Moon in Sagittarius and how its energy, paired with that of the Winter Solstice and the end of the year, makes us all think a little more passionately about what we want our next year to look like - and how that's pushed me to plant my own new seed.      Thank you so much for listening!
