Ep 3: Learn how to shop your wardrobe and be that Sustainability Warrior

Orsola de Castro once said  "The most sustainable garment is the one already in your wardrobe"

Creating a relationship with your clothes is the first step to making them last - clothes are not disposable and they should be well kept to last a long time.

Tips to organise and streamline your wardrobe:

  • Take note of what you see
  • Where possible - separate your Summer/ Spring clothes from your Winter/ Autumn clothes - I like to use clear storage tubs you'll find at the likes of Spotlight.
  • Hopefully you can now see all the individual items, which are hung neatly using wooden hangers, or felt hangers for fine tops
  • To make more sense of what’s in there, group the items into bottoms and tops, and go even further, some might like to separate into work v casual/ going out wear, or colour code dark to light OR item type, pants/ skirts/ dresses (for the ladies) , tops, jumpers, jackets and all other outerwear
  • Take note of repeat items, try them on, discard those that are worn out or don't fit well, or that you haven't worn for 12 months or longer
  • Look into your ideal 'capsule wardrobe' items and check that you are comfortable with the selection you have, as well as accessories inc. Shoes, Bags, Hats and Jewellery.

Now you can experiment with outfits, mixing and matching and planning outfits in advance to make your life easier.
