Money and Divorce - Karyn Lander

This episode Karyn Lander shares her perspective about relationship and business break ups. She is a leader in her industry and known as a passionate forensic accountant, who is truly in her clients’ corner. She stresses the importance of knowing your financial structure, including any entities that have been set up via the family or business unit. Her role gives her access to people, typically women, who have been knee deep in the operations of a household or business, who are then forced to confront and uncover their financial set up when a divorce happens. For example, it can be upsetting to see the financial proof of when an affair has started, seeing the purchase of things like Tiffany Jewellery. We discuss the taboo topics that professional women delicately navigate such as the importance of financial independence, divorce and domestic violence. As a mother, she shares some of the conversations she has had with her children to help them when they reach adulthood. Karyn is an associate director at BDO and has been in the accounting profession for almost 30 years.
