Lets-a-go with Illumination's attempt at starting a Mario movie franchise, with an all star cast and game accurate character designs, what more could you ask for! Well a decent script for starters, maybe a cohesive structure and genuine depth to characters but that's just me and what I like to experience from a movie. Sure I'm not looking for anything triumphant from a film based on a character that only really runs around kingdoms in search of a princess captured by a fire breathing turtle, but I think we deserve something a little better than this. It's filled with nostalgia and easter eggs for fans, and of course it is fun, but it's dispensable and forgettable and I'd find it much easier to recommend playing the games instead. In cinemas now!
