Women in WW2 at home in Britain had their lives turned upside down. Anna Parker-Naples shares her research and creative writing process as she creates her first novel based on events that happened in her home town Leighton Buzzard, Q-Central and nearby Bletchley Park. From the factory girls at Gossards who made the parachutes for Spitfires, to the Land Girls who fell in love with POW's and the WAAF's and WRN's billeted in the town alongside thousands of East End evacuees, Anna's intention is to share the bits that inspire her work, but may not get included in the final manuscript. As a writer on the prestigious Faber Academy writers course, Anna will share the journey from idea, to first draft, revisions, the search for an agent and traditional book publishing deal, and beyond. With interviews with fellow writers and established authors, and with historians who specialise in the Second World War. If you would like to follow this journey, go to www.annapn.co/ww2

04 The Hardest Letter to Write

While I was preparing to become qualified enough to write a book, I needed to take a course that would improve my storytelling skills. In today's episode, I'm going to talk about the challenges I faced when writing the hardest letter for an application to study a novel-writing course. I'll also be sharing the experience and thoughts I had during that period when I was expecting feedback from the academy.

What You Will Learn in This Episode:

- The essential keys to focus on when writing a novel

- How I overcame the challenges I faced while writing my application for the course

- Why I regret not paying attention to my grandmother's experience when she was alive

- My reaction to the result of my application and the effects it had on my decision making

As I was waiting for feedback from the Faber Academy, I was dealing with self-doubt and not feeling capable enough to go through with the course. It took a lot of courage to overcome my vulnerabilities and accept that I was ready to take a meaningful step in my life. This is why I want to encourage you to step out of your comfort zone and believe that anything is possible when you put yourself out there.
