Responding to Rape and Sexual Assault

For the month of August, we spoke to Dr. Aniekan Makanjuola. Dr. Aniekan is a medical doctor and an alumnus of the University of Benin. She joined the Women at risk international Foundation (WARIF) at its inception in 2016, as the head of the clinical service division, and later the center manager of the WARIF Rape Crisis Centre. In her capacity, she has provided medical treatment and forensic examination to survivors of rape and other forms of gender-based violence while ensuring prompt and quality service provision for these survivors. Dr. Aniekan has served as an expert witness in court in GBV-related cases, and she is also involved in community-based outreaches to raise awareness about gender-based violence.
