Well now, welcome, neighbor, to Winds on W Mountain, where tales as old as these hills—and twice as twisted—whisper their way to you, when the mood strikes and the wind's right. We ain't much for schedules; episodes waft in like smoke from a Shatagee Woods Adirondack Mountain campfire, carrying yarns spun by old-timers, tall tales shared by summer folk clutchin' their city ways, and the kind of uncanny musin's that make web-gawkers wonder if we’re history or hysteria. So, pull up a log, pour some milled cider, and let’s see if these winds are breathin' truth or just ghostin’ us all.

Chateaugay Lake's Shanty Squatters

📣 🔥 Winds of W Mountain | 🚨: “Chateaugay Lake's Shanty Squatters”

Brought to you by Steamboat Dispatch Syndicate, East Bellmont's only news source with both a spectral correspondent and a moonshine sponsor.

🎙️ LISTENER ADVISORY

This episode contains historically accurate depictions of frontier isolation, spectral visitation, pine-sap dread, backwoods psychological unraveling, and—most chilling of all—milfoil possession. Listener discretion is advised. Do not consume near dense fern cover, fire rings, or unblessed rowboats.

đź“» OFFICIAL BROADSHEET ANNOUNCEMENT

To be posted in barns, outhouses, regional taverns, and any reputable general store with a dusty phonograph:

ATTENTION LOVERS OF LOON-LACED TERROR AND ADIRONDACK ARCANA:

From the very campfire ring where “Old Veritas” once spotted a ripple with no stone, we present a new entry in the Winds of W Mountain series.

This week, descend into 1816’s haunted cradle—a time when Chateaugay Lake’s first settlers built their shanty not on land, but atop a bed of dread. Hear of Judith Drew’s haunted washbasin. Of a winter where the wind was not the only thing that howled. Of a child born beneath W Mountain’s ever-gazing eye—and the silence that answered.

First told back in 1911 by Indian Point House’s own Uncle Dick Shutts, this tale speaks of a cabin that heard more than prayers and a woods that never gave up its seat. You’ll meet Squire Miles, the Bible-thumpin' justice of the peace, who dreamed of nippin' lake serpents. You’ll hear hints of the Milfoil Queen, whose hand may still reach from lakeweed to shore.

This ain’t your granpappy’s folktale. This is raw backwoods Americana soaked in cedar, iron, and cold fear. If you’ve ever shivered without knowing why—you already know the sound of these echoes.

If your fire crackles twice, and you didn’t poke it…
If your dog growls at the lake after dark…
If you find Samuel Drew’s hat near Bearslide—

You’re already part of the story.
