Why Afrikaans?

Many years have passed since the Soweto student uprising of 16 June 1976, but discussions and controversy around Afrikaans as a home language and medium of instruction in many South African schools have not changed. Why is that?

We open the episode with a clip from popular actress Ayanda Boroto, talking about her frustrations (which many South Africans share) on the subject. Her clip is followed by the opinions of two experts in the field who talk about the winners and losers the system creates and share their perspectives on possible solutions.

Guests (and links): Kagisho Masae, edu-tech entrepreneur; Lia Snijman, project manager at a language services company.

Host & Producer: Nkgabiseng Motau; production assistance, Reatile Mosoeu; sound design, Karabo Ramohashe
