01.05 - What does community mean to you?
- It has helped navigate through so many transitional seasons
01.44 - Do you remember the first community you were a part of?
- I had such a need for a community and journeying with people
- Having a place that empathised with me helped me grow even further to my goals
- A lot of big life transitions I had to navigate alone
- Out of the growing pains I knew I had to start my own community
05.18 - What make a community be attractive to be a part of?
- Belonging, where you don’t have to perform
- Showing genuine interest in each member
- Having common values and communicating what they are
07.25 - What makes a community last?
- Consistency
- Community happens throughout the week
- Communities come in seasons
08.56 - Does it not cause the leader burnout if they are leading everything?
- I was the leader that had to deal with everything, building with the next leaders in mind
- It cannot be you alone!
10.46 - What advice would you want to give to someone thinking of starting a community?
- The mission of why is important which usually comes from your own pain points
- Our life story gives us a clue of what we want to build next
- Don’t build on your own - find the people who share the same mission
13.20 - The Scenario….What advice would you give to someone who knows they want to leave the community, how would you suggest doing that well?
- It can feel like leaving a relationship and you want to do it well.
- Honouring the community and who it was, and the impact they made
15.23 - Can you recognise any signs to leave a community?
- You’re feeling frustrated and unsettled
- It could be about moving around within the community not just leaving
16.45 - What has been a failure you’ve had from growing communities?
- Doing everything on my own!
- Dealing with my over perfection of how I want something
- A strong community delegates and lets people take ownership.
18.19 - Any thoughts on managing being a part of multiple communities well?
- Don’t lead them all! You need to give out as well as replenish.
- Leadership health plays a big role in community health.
20.15 - What’s the community we should focus on the most?
- The structured vs organic communities
- My family and immediate inner circle, sharing common values
- Then you have the more external communities that can shift and adapt
22.15 - Encouragement to someone who is struggling to find a community?
- It can be extremely vulnerable to be a part of one
- When you don’t see what you like, why not do it yourself - it doesn’t have to be super structured
- Knowing when to add structure
24.24 - take initiative and go it alone - you have to have a community with yourself.
- Being true to what you enjoy!
- There’s no one way of making a community.
- It takes one person to step out!
- Sometimes you just need to try even if it’s not in your comfort zone and being more curious.
