How To Carry & Communicate Expectations

This conversation is about Expectations - why we have them, how to set and communicate them, how to let go of past disappointments and when you need to reinvent them.

0.50: Why do we have Expectations?

  • Expectations are what we assign our assumptions and experiences too.

2.50: What is your opinion on low vs high expectations when it comes to friendships?

  • It’s about having realistic expectations of people going through different seasons

4.47: When is it healthy to start having expectations?

  • It’s never too early to set some expectations
  • Having intentional expectations
  • When you start having consistency and routine within friendships
  • Asking questions will help to navigate clear expectations.

9.23: How do you communicate your expectations within your friendships?

  • Get good at asking better questions!
  • It’s about opening a dialogue to have both your expectations heard.

11.45: How do you stop from serving the other persons expectations more than your own?

  • The scales will always hopefully level out…
  • Friendship don’t always have to be 50/50.
  • You have to recognise if you are being self sabotaged

13.08: Let’s unpack what unspoken expectations look like in friendships?

  • Expectations unfold naturally within friendships
  • They can work like a personal roadmap
  • Be willing to talk about it.

18.15: Asking your friends what their expectations are of you?

  • And check if you are ok with it.

18.42: Scenario…Reinventing yourself in friendships and communicating your new expectations?

  • It’s hard, but it is an invitation to open the communication and let them show up.
  • Express your needs!
  • It’s creating a space of vulnerability

23.40: Celebrating expectations within relationships, and how to find the balance of knowing which relationships they are for?

  • Knowing people’s personalities will help cater to different situations

25.12: How do you stop the energy of past disappointments / let downs of expectations not affect future relational expectations?

  • It takes self awareness
  • Learning to hold expectations with an open hand (nothing good can get into a closed hand).
  • Having a foundation of expectations and leaving it open to be added to.

Have and set expectations for the people in your world.

32.22: What would you say to someone who wants to let go of past hurts, any journal / question prompts?

  • Put a name / label on them!

34.12: practical tips for communicating expectations at gatherings?

  • Know your audience on how to best show up for them.

36.16: what has been a lesson that has really helped you in expectations?

  • Expect people to show you who they are and say what they mean.
  • Create environments where people can show up fully.

Thank you for taking the time to listen or watch - I hope this added value to your world and got an idea or tip for your own journey.
