In 2011, while working on an education mission in Somalia, Jessica was abducted at gunpoint and held hostage by Somali pirates for 93 days. She was forced to live outdoors, starved, and threatened daily as her health rapidly declined. On January 25, 2012, her captivity ended with a dramatic rescue carried out by SEAL Team Six, authorized by President Obama.
