Week 163: Longevity Lessons from Blue Zones

In this episode, I talk about Blue Zones, or places in the world where people often live to age 100 or later but are also healthy during this time. The 3 main lessons (from Dan Buettner, who was recently on the Happiness Lab) are that people from Blue Zones 1) eat more fruits, whole grains, vegetables and tons of beans, and less meat 2) live in walkable places where exercise is just a part of their lives- they walk from 9,000-10,000 steps a day just as part of their regular lives, and 3) have strong social connections and a sense of community. I give examples of each of these from my own life and the action item for this week is to pick one of these areas and see if you can make a small change to look more like people in Blue Zones!
