Week of March 29th

This week Katie Cole talks about the recent email sent to the entire Simmons community from President Lynn Perry Wooten regarding campus life and learning structure for the 2021 Fall Semester. Iz Indelicato and Sarah Carlon discuss the implications of the email and the plan to return to campus with in-person learning. 

Sarah Carlon interviewed three Simmons professors from different departments this week and reports on what they had to say about how the semester is going now that we're past the halfway point. She discusses the point of views of Professor Mukherjee, Professor Golden, and Professor Scotina as they navigate teaching on the online platform for the second whole semester. 

Katie Cole also reports on the 42nd annual Simmons Leadership Conference that was hosted on March 23, covering the keynote speakers as well as the event's overall themes of resilience and authenticity.

A Slow Return to "Normalcy"

Students admitted to Simmons begin touring campus with precautions amidst construction on the academic campus, and the return of students to the residential campus as Residental Life offers mid-semester housing.

Despite the hope of a new normal one yeast into the COVID-19 pandemic, experts say that reaching this anniversary could bring about unexpected mental health challenges. Dr. Hugo Kamya, a professor at the Simmons School of Social Work, and Dr. Daniel O’Brien, a Northeastern professor who is leading research on the effect of the pandemic on Bostoanins,’ share their insight, and how to cope with widespread trauma reactions.

We share parts of The Shark’s music director, Laurel Auth’s chat with Jake McKelvie of Jake McKelvie & the Countertops. To hear their full conversation about their latest album, recording process, and the changes in the Boston music scene, check out The Shark’s podcast feed.
