This is EP 28 with Fatboy Wilson & Old Viejo Bones, currently based out of somewhere near the California coast. Their album was recorded on a farm, and written in part on a hidden secret river bank. A bunch of eclectic influences and fun true stories all come together to make a really nice record. This week we're doing a special minisode, a 24h Single. Same general concept, but guests have 24 hours to write one song. The idea is to allow musicians to take part in the challenge and process, who otherwise wouldn't be able to because of an album release schedule, work, etc. Today our guest is Alex Rapp, from here in Berlin, Germany. Episode 23 of Weekly EP is a strange, personal episode. Instead of a normal episode, this is a premiere of a long, and an even longer overdue record. It's not a record that anyone was waiting for, but it's one that shouldn't live only on a hard drive. This episode is simply the premiere of "Out of the Blue GoodNight" by your host, Cody Swanson, under the name Noisycrane. This record was recorded in New York City nearly four years ago and it was never released because I could never decide on a name, and I never got the tracks mastered. So I never put it out. In the spirit of the podcast though, which aims to just allow music to exist without being perfect or agonized over, I've decided to release it here and now.

I think this may be the longest Weekly EP episode so far and I think that's because I had a really good time talking with Joshua about how he makes music and I'm a little very jealous of his music basement studio. This is Episode 20 with Miss Nöyd, aka Bente Lorentzen, currently from here in Berlin, Germany. Bente and I talk about finding new ways to approach music from a child like, carefree way. Meaning having fun and not really caring what anyone else thinks. This seems like a pretty good way to approach music in general, to me. We also talk about how playing live is so valuable to writing music and what that's going to look like going forward.

I'm still on holiday this week, exploring southern German beer gardens and beautiful picturesque streets. BUT luckily this is The Summer Holiday Comp Vol. 2. In just a moment you'll hear a few songs each from eight awesome past guests here on Weekly EP. Think of it sort of like a playlist, even though this podcast is normally the opposite of a playlist. Well, I'm not actually such what's technically the opposite of a playlist. But anywho, let's get into it.

Over the next two weeks Weekly EP will be on a summer holiday. Lauren and I are finally checking out a bit more of the small cities and towns outside of Berlin and so that means there won't be any new guests until August. BUT I figured this was a good opportunity to showcase the amazing guests we've had the privilege of featuring and interviewing so far. This is Episode 16 with Elisa Flynn, from Brooklyn, New York in the US. Elisa was super easy to talk to and I really dig where she got the inspiration for the songs on her album this week. We talk about the Tom Cruise movie Legend, vampires, kate bush, trying to write slightly less depressing songs, and wonder if the beats that come with Garageband should just be considered fair use at this point.

This is Episode 15 with Clayton Eddy, from Buffalo NY in the US. Clayton is in a two person group called Buffalo Sexchange and the other member, Phil, aka Beef Gordon, who was our very first guest on the show. So I was super happy to get Clayton on here. It turns out this was Clayton's first go at digital multi-track recording his own music but you wouldn't know it (we get into his somewhat practical, but I think unusual recording method later). We also talk about motorcycle sidecars, recording vs live performances and trying to write timeless songs during a pandemic. 

This is Episode 14 with Hali Palombo, from Chicago, Illinois in the US. The record Hali has made, that you're about to hear, is one of the more interesting and experimental we've had so far and I love it. And I love it even more now, knowing how it was made. Hint, international radio stations were involved. My wife and I have one radio in our apartment that we pretty much only use to occasionally listen to Klassik Radio, a 24h classic music station, while cooking here in Berlin. But that radio can't do what what Hali's many radios can.

This is Episode 13 with Violet's Gone, aka Chris Fordham, from Northampton, England. Chris came to the podcast by way of our guests from episode 8, and we talk about a range of good stuff including color perception, philosophy, who you should be writing music for, and Chris talks about how doing an album in a week has given him a whole new energetic push to finish a full length he's been working on for over a year. ////Tracklisting://////1. This is Episode 12 with Dr. Burtrum, aka Dylan Henderson, from New York City. Dylan made a very good, and I think accessible, electronic dance record that I hope you'll really enjoy. We also talk about the interesting new school old school way Dyland recorded this record, and a good amount about synths. As a result I think I'm getting closer and closer to getting another one... 

This is Episode 11 with Lauren Piper, of AEIOU, (pronounced vowels), from Berlin, Germany. We talk a lot about how little accidents in recording can lead to fun song structures, and making the shift from live recording with a loop pedal to home recording.
