Episode 149 | How to Free Yourself from a Toxic Relationship, featuring Nancy Crespo-Richardson
Trigger warning: This episode mentions acts of domestic violence. Listener discretion is advised
Nancy Crespo-Richardson is a bicultural, bilingual Licensed Professional Counselor who is passionate about decolonizing therapy and the healing journey. She stays engaged with the latest healing practices for the community, ensuring she practices what she preaches.
Nancy takes a holistic approach that blends ancestral practices with strategies from western methodologies, creating a personalized experience for each client. She loves working with BIPOC and underserved communities, helping them heal and find freedom by reconnecting with their roots, exploring their identities, and discovering their voices to live authentically.
This week, Nancy opens up about her own experience with domestic violence and how it inspired her to become a mental health professional. She talks about the misconceptions and stigmas around domestic violence, the importance of offering non-judgmental support, and the need for healthy relationships and communication. Nancy also shares holistic healing methods, including self-care practices, movement, and self-nurturing.
We also discuss the healing process after abusive relationships, stressing the importance of self-care, processing trauma, and understanding the patterns of abuse. We highlight the need for support systems and resources for survivors, offering advice on navigating the challenges of the healing journey.
*Note: If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, please know that help is available. Call the 24/7 National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233) for confidential support.
