In 18th-century France, Chevalière d’Éon became famous as a brilliant spy and diplomat- and one of the first openly transgender figures in European history. Throughout their life, it was unknown if they were a man or a woman, living boldly between identities and loyalties, carrying out secret missions for both France and England.
