V2D Episode 19 The Music Connection with Giveton Gelin
Have you ever thought about WHY music is played/ sung as it is? Have you thought about the musician and wondered if they were in the same headspace as you (the listener) when they created their work as you are when you feel it in your heart, spirit and body? Doesn’t it so often feel that it was made just for you in that moment of your life?   After meeting Giveton Gelin, one of The Bahamas and New York City’s top up-and-coming Jazz musicians, I started to better realise the integral link between life and music. The process of creating is incredibly similar to that of finding happiness and authenticity in life.   Join me as I discuss Giveton’s remarkably unexpected journey that brought him to this moment. Come and hear of the joy of finding your flow, understanding your headspace, confidence and enjoying the value of the creation process in both music and life.   Giveton graduated from Juilliard in 2021 and has been on an upward trajectory ever since. He has worked with the renowned Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra subbing for the legendary Wynton Marsalis. You will also hear Giveton on Grammy Award-winning albums with celebrated musician Jon Batiste. His lessons learnt from some of the world's greatest artists such as Roy Hargrove and Adrian D’Aguilar have now helped him to become a mentor for other artists through his work with In The Shed. I am so grateful for Giveton making the time to share his story with us here today.   You can find Giveton’s current album, True Design on all good streaming platforms.   Please follow Giveton:   Instagram @giveton and @intheshed.live   Facebook @givetongelin   Web: intheshed.live and givetongelin.com
