Lina Fadista Interview

In this episode, we feature Lina, one of the most distinctive voices of contemporary fado. Born in Hamburg to Portuguese parents and raised in Bragança, she started in opera before dedicating herself fully to fado. Lina is known for her bold and innovative approach, blending tradition with new soundscapes while keeping the emotional essence of the genre.

Her career includes performing Amália Rodrigues on stage in Lisbon, touring internationally, and gaining wide acclaim with the award-winning album Lina_Raül Refree (2020). She later released Fado Camões, bringing the poetry of Luís de Camões into the heart of fado, followed by Terra Mãe, a collaboration with Jules Maxwell that bridges Portuguese and Irish traditions.

Most recently, she launched O Fado, a daring new album recorded exclusively with Spanish pianist Marco Mezquida, where piano and voice dialogue in pure and intimate form.

This conversation explores Lina’s journey, her influences, and her vision for the future of fado — a music that is at once deeply Portuguese and increasingly universal.
