S1 E1.01 Owen Reads Lady Audley's Secret by Mary Elizabeth Braddon, Published in the London Journal 1863 Hello Lovely Vicies and Victors, Im glad you found your way over here to the Victorian Periodical Parade Welcome to the second reading of the Cornhill magazine. My name is Owen and I will be assisting Dr. Kari Nixon by reading the fiction portions of the 1862 bound annual edition. This is a nice collection of literature that connects present day folks to the Victorians of a 160 years ago. This first reading is a segment of the Mary Elizabeth Braddon novel, Lady Audley's Secret , People often would buy the magazine subscription so that they could read the book throughout the year. Said novel would be broken up into installments, with the rest of the magazine being made up of other stories or articles which would be a bonus for those who bought the magazine to read the novel. I am excited to narrate something similar to those rich, Victorian days gone by. Now, we’ll see how far we get in fifteen minutes. I hope you enjoy, hobey ho lets go. Next episode with either be Kari, or an interview between myself and Daniel Kasper PhD as we go over The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde, written by Robert Stevenson The digital version of the Cornhill Magazine is found here: https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=miun.aan4387.0001.001&view=1up&seq=2176 Follow us here: On Instagram @Victorian_Periodical_Parade On Twitter @VictorianParade On Facebook /VictorianParade On Youtube by searching for Victorian Periodical Parade or via email at victorianperiodicalparade@gmail.com
