Vernacular Pathways: Tales of Loss, Grief, and Transitions

A space to honor the raw, the unpolished, and the unshakable. Through honest conversations, we explore life, death, grief, trauma, and the transitions that shape us. Vernacular is the essence of what remains when everything else is stripped away. It’s what colonization could not touch, could not erase, and could not influence. It’s the stories told in kitchens, the songs hummed while hand washing clothes, the tales passed down in whispers, dreams and rituals.

Intro Episode - What is vernacular in you?

In this introductory episode of Vernacular Pathways: Tales of Loss, Grief, and Transitions, I take you back to the streets of Cotonou, Benin, where I grew up, surrounded by sounds, stories, and many many languages. I reflect on the significance of “les langues vernaculaires,” the indigenous languages and identity that carry our unrefined truths, suppressed emotions, and timeless wisdom.
