"Operation Khukri" is one of the most spectacular tales of Indian peace keeping contingent that was in a 3 month long siege with the RUF Rebels in Sierra Leone, Africa. This Operation also paved the way for the ultimate normalisation in Sierra Leone. It's a fascinating tale full of drama, military action, quick wits and lots of take aways.
During the peace keeping mission in 2000, A continent of 233 Indian peace keeping soldiers were surrounded by RUF rebels for about 3 months and another team of about 23 men were taken hostage by the RUF. Ultimately, the peacekeepers broke the cordon and pulled off a fighting retreat to safety and one of its commanders successfully negotiated the release of the 23 men taken hostage.
