We took another dive into the large pile of books…and came up with Zen and Art of Motorcycle Maintenance by Robert Pirsig
ZAMM, as it is affectionately known, is a huge book in so many dimensions. Carl describes it as a "cultural phenomenon".
We have been itching to take on this on for a while. Carl referred to the Smithsonian exhibit - this is a great article that explores Pirsig, the trip, his tools of the writing trade and the impact of his writing: https://motorcyclestudies.org/volume-17-2021/chrome-and-black-and-dusty-robert-pirsigs-motorcycle-heritage-paul-f-johnston/

Today we chat fiction, why we read fiction, and why you should read fiction too. Carl introduces the Sorbet/Teppenyaki/Kale framework, and Seán discusses books to share with others, and books to escape.
The longlist of what we covered:

We took another dive into the large pile of books…and came up with The Filter Bubble by Eli Pariser.
The Filter Bubble, despite being written over a decade ago, is a thought-provoking book about the internet age and how our behaviour is subtlely, and not so subtlely, manipulated by the platforms we use. It also explores the consequences of this.

We took another dive into the large pile of books…and came up with Working Backwards by Colin Bryar and Bill Carr
Business books; are they all they are hyped up to be? Meet the “insights, stories and secrets” of Amazon presented by a couple of senior ex-employees. We dive into the formulaic nature of business books and how the Amazon story has a lot more Jeff and a lot more luck than perhaps this book really acknowledges. We also reflect on whether the book really represents the Amazon of today, which is perhaps a different story.

Plane geek alert! This week we look at innovation, planes and whether the key lessons of one of the most infamous innovation labs can be translated into business, government and everywhere. A slight warning and apology - when Seán says “lets talk about the planes for 30seconds” it went a lot longer than that!! Strap in Maverick, its time to buzz the control tower.
