I’m going to post my announcement / speech / monologue here: “I’m afraid, and this is NOT a joke, that we’re going to do what I hoped we would never have to do. And announce that the United Queendom gang are taking a hiatus. And I hi-hate us for doing this. But let me explain. It’s been three years now of doing this, and it’s been amazing. And we couldn’t have done it without you. There’ve been laughs, controversies, hangovers, outrageous stories, impressions, hangovers, apologies, Guy Onions, interviews, hangovers… and even the occasional hangover… but despite having such an amazing time doing this, it is very hard to keep the podcast going each week on limited funds. Now, myself and Sam are happy to do it for free but our producer Moon, real name James, who is the real hero of this podcast, puts a lot of hours into editing us, mainly editing out stuff that Sam says, and while he has been so kind and generous and has often done that work unpaid for the good of the pod, to which I’m eternally grateful, it’s not feasible to continue like that. As you know, from previous annoying adverts, we tried to make sponsor work. Ku bar sponsored us for a while and we were very grateful to them but obviously lockdown massively affected them so they had to end the partnership. And then our latest sponsor, Fat Pigeon art, had a similar trajectory. And obviously at the moment we’re in financial crisis in this country, so it’s a hard ask to get a company to sponsor us, and because we don’t have millions of listeners, it’s a long shot that we’ll find another, and if we do, they might also end up cancelling like the last two and I don’t want to have to stop mid season. That’s why we tried the Patreon last year, and thank you so much to everyone who supported that, I know we weren’t good at keeping up with the extra content, but it was not money wasted at all, that support is the reason the podcast was able to survive as long as it has. The reason I’m telling you this now before the end of season four, and believe me, I’ve been dreading saying it, is on the off chance that of the thousands of you who do listen, who are part of the United Queendom family, might have any suggestions of what we could do, we are open to lifelines. I didn’t want to tell you on what might be our last episode before this break, as it might seem sudden, as I know that people who love this podcast have come to rely on the weekly episodes. So this might not be the end, but I’m afraid a break is definitely happening. Sam and I are definitely up for returning, be it got the next American series of Drag Race, or And Just Like That season two, which somehow got commissioned, the Big Brother podcast - watch this space - or even season five of UK next year. I don’t know, but we can’t return with this current situation. So if any of you is a secret billionaire who fancies funding us, or is a producer who has a few hours spare free a week and wants to volunteer yourself, speak now or forever hold your piss.
