Based on the comic strips and subsequent film serials of the 1930s, the 1980 adaptation was seen as too weird, too cheesy, too campy, and too colorful by many at the time. Over the years, however, those same elements, along with its incredible soundtrack by Queen, have turned it from frequently mocked misfire to cult classic.
