Is Rap Music Dead in Nigeria?

Rap Music, unlike Afrobeats hasn't quite been able to cement its place on the hall of fame of Nigerian music, despite its growth and past successes, with notable rap artists like M.I., Olamide, Phyno, Reminisce and fast rising acts like Blaqbonez, Ladipoe... leading the charge.

Even after all these notable acts, Nigerian music lovers cannot help but argue from time to time on whether or not that genre of Nigerian music is dead. This is a question that I cannot give an answer to, whether you think it's dead in Nigeria or not, you're absolutely correct.

Many have also argued that rap artists in Nigeria have transitioned into singers and neglected the art that's true to them. While there's some truth in this, acts like Blaqbonez and M.I. are relentless in the fight to portray that rap music is not dead in Nigeria and is very much alive. we see this in their projects that was released last year (2022), as both albums made it to #1 on the Top Albums in Nigeria o Apple Music at the time of release.  This is a question I'll leave for you to answer. Is rap dead in Nigeria?
