Ep. 27 - I'm going back to EVEREST

Summary

In this episode, Ty and his father discuss the upcoming return to Mount Everest for Project Himalaya Run Everest, where Ty aims to set a speed record without supplemental oxygen. They also announce the new role of the Chaski Foundation in supporting athlete empowerment and environmental projects. 

With the Chaski Foundation, we launched a fundraiser focused on youth athletic programs in Nepal and Ecuador, two places that have played huge roles in Ty’s life and where he has strong relationships on the ground. He wanted to be clear from the jump: thanks to two lead donors, all the expedition costs and admin are already covered—so every dollar people give goes straight to the kids.

We called it “25 Everest”—a nod to the 216,000 meters he will climb in training, which is literally 25 times the height of Everest. It’s a fun way to gamify the donation process: $1 per Everest, $25 total. But beyond the numbers, this is about access. For most of us, running a race or buying shoes isn’t a big deal. But for a family in rural Nepal or Ecuador, that $20 entry fee or bus ticket to a race can be a massive barrier. So we’re supporting not just coaching and mentorship, but the full ecosystem—gear, travel, competition access. And we’re doing it hand-in-hand with the communities, not just dropping in with our own agenda. If people want to follow along, they can head to tylercandrews.com/everest.
