018 - Alcohol Misuse, Mental Health & Dual Diagnosis
In episode 18 Jo and Paula are chatting to Natasha Chant about mental health and alcohol misuse, including dual diagnosis. Natasha's a registered mental health nurse. She's worked in inpatient and community settings and currently works in a mental health drop in centre in Dorset. It's an out of hours' self-referral centre for anyone to access support for their own mental health or carers to access support for themselves. I have the privilege of working alongside peer specialists who offer their lived experience alongside clinical expertise to offer visitors space to focus on their strengths and consider how they can move forward safely to access other services. I'm passionate about providing a service for everyone in a self-defined crisis, this derives from my own personal experience of growing up living with adults with mental illness and wanting to empower others to feel they have some control over how they can move forward from their crisis. With Natasha's experience of mental health and alcohol misuse, she's the perfect person to interview about dual diagnosis and how alcohol misuse and mental health are so intrinsically linked.
