R.L. Stein’s Fear Street (Netflix Parts 1 - 3 & Prom Queen)

We’re wrapping up Spooky Season with some fun, campy films. Before we dig into those, we discuss the upcoming Robert Egger’s film, Werwulf, which is rumored to star Willem Dafoe, Lily-Rose Depp, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Hannah also did a double feature of The Wizard of Oz and Wicked, and caught the original Creature from the Black Lagoon.

Maybe it’s a generational thing, but when it comes to R.L. Stein, we were definitely Goosebumps kids and Fear Street wasn’t really on our radar. These films have some fun qualities and they do tell a good story overall. We liked the decades featured in each one, and really enjoyed the story from Part 3: 1666 the best. We could have used a little more of that story and some of the other background stories of the killers haunted by the spirit of Sarah Fier. Parts 1 - 3 do a good job of wrapping up the story at the end, even though it did feel a little slopped together by the time we got to the end of Part 3. Fear Street: Prom Queen is a stand-alone film that still takes place in the same timeline as Parts 1 -3 do. Unfortunately, this film really didn’t work for us from top to bottom. This one should have gone more over-the-top and camp, and it took itself a little too seriously instead.
