In this episode, for Indigenous People's Day, we read In the Shadow of the Red Brick Building about Residential Schools in Canada and how they would treat indigenous people. This book is super important but also very depressing and tough. We do have trigger warnings for s*xual abuse, child abuse, and suicide. We learn more about the movements Raymond Charlie has been working on for years and how abuse at the boarding schools have impacted many native lives.
Here is a link into more about one of the abusers and a boy found in the gymnasium. https://www.cbc.ca/newsinteractives/features/kuper-island-residential-school-richard-thomas
