Prof. Dr. Mena B. Lafkioui is Full Professor at the Ecole des hautes études en sciences sociales in Paris, where she holds the Chair of Amazigh linguistics. She is also Research Director at Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, also in Paris. She is a linguist and sociolinguist, specialized in Amazigh languages and cultures, on which she has been extensively working and publishing for more than two decades. We have prepared some questions for our professor: What is Tarifit? Traditionally, the Rifians don’t say we speak Tarifit, but Tamazight or Tmazight, is that right? Based on your extensive research, including decades of fieldwork in the whole Rif, also in the Ghmora area and Senhaja area, how can the different Amazigh varieties of the Rif can be grouped, if it all possible?
