Photosynthesizers

60 years of women behind the lens in a cross Tasman survey show at Te Uru Gallery, Titirangi. Tukua explores the differences between the male and female gaze and curatorial choice. But what does our panel think of those choices?

Tukua is 75-year-old arts activist and author, Ngahuia Te Awekotuku, Gen Z sculptor Brett Graham and 24-year-old standup comedian, Kura Turuwhenua.

We take you to the event, interview the creatives involved and then discuss it back in the RNZ studio.

Our focus is on Māori and Pasifika artists but no-one is safe from the Tukua lens.

Guests:

  • Lisa Reihana - contributing artist
  • James Gatt - Te Uru Gallery Senior Curator
  • Nova Paul – contributing artist
